Job Description

The role of a Qualified Supervising Professional (QSP) is to ensure the highest quality and standard of behavior therapy for children and their families through staff and client supervision. The QSP is responsible for overseeing and approving treatment provided in the clinic, providing support to families, providing support to staff, and process development.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Have appropriate Minnesota state license (one of the following):
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP)
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker(LICSW)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
  • Physician licensed under chapter 147 if the physician is: certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry; or eligible for board certification in psychiatry
  • A Masters or Doctorate degree
  • Minimum of three years relevant and recent clinical experience
  • 2,000 hours of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of Autism

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for counseling and guidance
  • Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, human migrations, ethnicity, cultures, and their history and origins
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collects information about clients, using interviews, case histories, observational techniques, and other assessment methods
  • Counsels clients, groups, or families to help them understand problems, deals with crisis situations, defines goals, and develops realistic action plans
  • Documents client information including session notes, progress notes, recommendations, and treatment plans
  • Interacts with clients to assist them in gaining insight, defining goals, and planning action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, or vocational development and adjustment
  • Develops therapeutic treatment plans based on clients' interests, abilities, or needs
  • Identifies psychological, emotional, or behavioral issues and diagnose disorders, using information obtained from interviews, tests, records, or reference materials
  • Uses a variety of treatment methods, such as psychotherapy, behavior modification, stress reduction therapy, psychodrama, or play therapy
  • Writes reports on clients and maintain required paperwork
  • Consults with or provide consultation to other doctors, therapists, or clinicians regarding client care
  • Obtains and studies medical, psychological, social, and family histories by interviewing individuals, couples, or families and by reviewing records
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling or treatments and the accuracy and completeness of diagnoses, modifying plans or diagnoses as necessary
  • Selects, administers, scores, and interprets testing as appropriate to license type
  • Provides clinical rationale for treatment approaches, and discuss this rationale with parents and clients
  • Develops and implements individual treatment plans, specifying type, frequency, intensity, and duration of therapy
  • Consults with other professionals, agencies, or universities to discuss therapies, treatments, counseling resources or techniques, and to share occupational information
  • Refers clients to other specialists, institutions, or support services as necessary
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant research
  • Consults reference material, such as textbooks, manuals, or journals, to identify symptoms, make diagnoses, or develop approaches to treatment
  • Observes individuals at play, in group interactions, or in other contexts to detect indications of mental deficiency, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment
  • Provides consulting services, including educational programs, outreach programs, or talks to schools, social service agencies, businesses, or the general public
  • Provides occupational, educational, or other information to individuals so they can make educational or vocational plans
  • Directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities of staff and interns engaged in patient assessment and treatment
  • Develops, directs, and participates in training programs for staff and students
  • Conducts assessments of patients' risk for harm to self or others
  • Supervises and trains interns, clinicians in training, and other professionals such as BCBA’s, and Behavior Therapists

  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor
