APPLICATION ENGINEER

SUMMARY:

The Application Engineer is responsible for proposal development of conveyor systems and material handling equipment in accordance with customer and/or AMC specifications. The Application Engineer works closely with Customers, AMC Sales Representatives, AMC Mechanical and Electrical Designers to prepare clear, complete, and accurate proposals. The Application Engineer develops cost estimates, reviews pricing strategy with the department manager and/or Application Proposal Managers, and assists in the sales closure process.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Develop application solutions meeting the needs of the customer, with an emphasis on best value, safety, practicality, functionality, and standardization of components and equipment.
• Interface with Manager of Application Proposal Group, AMC Sales Representatives and the customer to verify project requirements.
• Generate requests for, and evaluate bids from, outside vendors/suppliers for materials and subcontracted services.
• Using AutoCAD or Solidworks, create proposal drawings.
• Prepare complete and accurate proposals in compliance with all applicable codes and customer supplied specifications, and/or AMC specifications.
• Prepare new order and change order paperwork.
• Participate in project kick-off meetings with the Mechanical and Electrical Departments to analyze and define project requirements.
• Interface with the project team to monitor and oversee the scope, budget, and timeline established, including project change orders.
• Participate (as required) in the final inspection prior to shipment to customer.
• Actively participate in department-related process improvement projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• Three years’ experience in mechanical systems design.
• Must have a practical working knowledge of material handling systems, conveyors, mechanical designs, electrical machine control, fluid control, and process logistics.  
• Preference will be given to those who possess a process engineering background, a superior mechanical and electrical aptitude and proven trouble-shooting skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with customers as well as multiple internal departments.
• Ability to develop mechanical layout designs using computer aided design tools, preferably AutoCAD version 2019 or higher and Solidworks.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Use appropriate problem-solving methods to identify, analyze, and solve problems in a sales and engineering environment.
• Ability to learn new concepts as well as utilize existing concepts to develop them into finished proposal solutions.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, plant/equipment layout drawings, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to financial and practical situations.
• Function effectively and productively within a team-focused work group.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Travel including overnight stays in the United States and other countries.
