JOB SUMMARY

Primary responsibility is to work with mechanical and electrical engineers to design and fabricate subsystems attached to OEM vehicles. This responsibility includes mechanical part design using Onshape 3D modeling software and creating 2D drawings to send out for machining and fabrication. Additionally, the role entails assembly and installation of designed components on vehicle platforms as well as some shop fabrication and cleaning work in the ASI shop. The employee will need to be skilled in multiple competencies relevant to the job and will need to work independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate as a member of multiple development project teams.
• Assist in project development with specific interest and responsibility to minimize design problems utilizing a high level of attention to detail.
• Fabricate and assemble prototype parts for installation on the OEM vehicle platform.
• Proficient in the use of a welder, lathe, drill, CNC gantry/plasma cutter, painting, powder coating, and general sheet metal work.
• Assist with facilities upkeep and responsible for maintaining and cleaning shop equipment.
• Maintains regular study habits by frequently reviewing emerging technologies that improve the design, development, and applies technologies learned.
• Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, dies, tools, and controls, using computer-assisted drafting (OnShape) equipment.
• Work with Engineers to modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS

• Associates degree in Mechanical Drafting or related field, and/or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, metal and plastic working, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
• 3-5 years of application experience with Solidworks or OnShape 3D modeling, modeling, 2D parts drawings, and 3D routing.
• Experience in CNC use to generate G Code from 2D drawings.
• Knowledge of design implementation through machining operations.
• Experience in sheet metal design work.
• Knowledge of electronics wire routing.
