What are the responsibilities and job description for the SHE Supervisor position at AutoZone?
The Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the plant remains in compliance with all federal and state environmental and safety regulations and that no actions are taken that might negatively impact human health or the environment.
The employee's primary duty must be performing office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.
What your day may look like
- Enforces compliance of facility policies and procedures pertaining to safety, health and environmental matters.
- Manages the storage and shipment of hazardous and non-hazardous waste including developing waste streams.
- Assists in the negotiation of waste disposal contracts.
- Provides technical support to the engineering department on process improvements and new operations.
- Assists with the development, updates, distribution and communication of all safety, health and environmental plans and programs.
- Establishes and updates emergency plans and procedures.
- Reviews accidents and incidents within the plant to establish root cause and avoid recurrence.
- Participates in inspections by regulatory agencies and coordinates with leadership to ensure deficiencies or findings are addressed.
- Submits all regulatory reports to federal and state agencies including annual reports licenses, OSHA logs, etc.
- Available for consultation in response to facility emergencies including accidents, employee injury and spill cleanup.
- Assists in conducting in-house regulatory compliance audits to evaluate the facility's compliance status.
- Performs audits on vendors and service providers utilized by the facility.
- Provides in-house training on environmental health and safety related topics.
- Serves as the facility contact for regulatory inspectors from local, state, and federal agencies in the absence of the SHE Manager.
- Performs work in a safe, responsible manner by following all safety rules and procedures.
- Maintains a clean work environment both inside and outside the facility by using good housekeeping habits.
- Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Education and experience needed for this position
- Bachelor's degree in SHE, physical science or related field is required or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of work experience in a manufacturing environment working with waste disposal is required.

- May need to operate a forklift.
- Must be capable of passing an OSHA respirator physical.
- Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
- Available to work a flexible schedule if needed.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job
There are potential hazards associated with any chemical manufacturing business but at Helena Industries safety is our highest priority. We seek out extensive safety measures including engineered solutions and personal protective equipment and put them in place to minimize exposure to anything that could potentially be harmful to our employees.
The work environment for this position is that of a typical plant environment where the noise level is usually moderate to loud. In this position, you will regularly work near moving equipment/mechanical parts and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Lab and office positions at the plant would only have occasional exposure if they must go out into the plant.
