This position is for Medical Office Staff at Avanta Clinic LLC, Internal Medicine Primary Care in Glastonbury, CT.
We are a small, independent, family owned practice with husband & wife providers who are also the owners.
We all work as a team to run the practice and take care of people. All MA’s in office are cross-trained to perform all jobs required to run the practice.
Strong preference for bilingual applicant - English and Spanish. (One provider and another MA speak Spanish fluently and we have a small population of Spanish speaking patients).
Jobs that need to be performed include:
- Medical assistant
- Front desk staff
- Answering phones
- Basic billing, including insurance verification, working with billing company, insurance and patients to resolve claim issues and collect payment
- Entering claims in EMR for patients seen in nursing homes
- Keeping the practice clean and organized
- Inventory management
- Other jobs as required to keep the practice running smoothly
Skills Needed:
- Computer and EMR literacy (preferably Athena Health EMR)
- Good interpersonal skills and phone etiquette is a necessity
- Able to communicate professionally in writing (e.g. replying to patient portal messages)
- Registering new patients in EMR, verifying insurance, scheduling patients and other front desk staff duties
- Putting patients in exam rooms, doing vital signs, computer data entry of medications, allergies, labs etc
- Scanning and filing patient paperwork in EMR or other locations
- Prior Authorizations and referrals
- Scheduling patients
- Collecting patient payments and managing cash box
- Understand basics of insurance, billing, claims generation and how practices get reimbursed for services
- Perform common office tests - EKG, spirometry, injections, rapid flu, rapid strep test, urinalysis, HbA1C, wound dressing etc
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Ability to organize and multi-task effectively
- Willing and eager to learn and use new skills
