Position Overview

QinetiQ US seeks a highly skilled Database Manager responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining database infrastructure and ensuring the integrity, security, and availability of data assets. Your expertise in database management, data modeling, and ETL processes will be essential in driving efficient and effective data management practices.

Responsibilities

Database Design and Development:

    • Design, develop, and maintain the organization's database systems, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into efficient and effective database designs.
    • Implement data modeling techniques to structure and organize data for optimal querying and reporting.

Data Integration and ETL Processes:

    • Develop and implement Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to integrate data from various sources into the database system.
    • Design and implement data pipelines to ensure seamless data flow and synchronization between different systems and databases.
    • Monitor and optimize ETL processes for performance, data quality, and error handling.

Data Security and Integrity:

    • Implement and enforce data security measures to protect sensitive information, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
    • Establish and maintain data governance frameworks, including data access controls, data classification, and data retention policies.
    • Monitor database systems for anomalies, data inconsistencies, and potential security breaches, taking proactive measures to resolve issues.

Performance Optimization and Tuning:

    • Monitor and analyze database performance metrics, identifying bottlenecks and areas for improvement.
    • Optimize database configurations, queries, and indexes to enhance system performance and response times.
    • Collaborate with development teams to identify and resolve performance-related issues.

Database Administration and Maintenance:

    • Perform routine database administration tasks, including backups, recovery, database tuning, and troubleshooting.
    • Conduct regular data maintenance activities, such as data archiving, purging, and data cleanup.
    • Monitor and ensure the availability and reliability of database systems, implementing disaster recovery and backup strategies.

Documentation and Collaboration:

    • Document database designs, configurations, and processes, ensuring comprehensive and up-to-date documentation.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, developers, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and support data-driven initiatives.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to team members, sharing knowledge and best practices related to database management and data engineering.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience (5 years) as a Database Management Expert, Data Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong expertise in database management systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server), including database design, optimization, and administration.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with data modeling techniques and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL processes, data integration, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database services, such as AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL.
  • Knowledge of data security principles and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to maintain a security clearance from the U.S. government.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience setting and managing client relationships and expectations.
  • Experience effectively communicating with diverse team, client, and organizational stakeholders.
  • Ability to set priorities, plan, and organize tasks and deliverables as needs evolve.
  • Previous experience working for a federal government client.
