Avera is currently seeking a highly motivated Director – Pharmacy Benefits with experience leading and managing multiple simultaneous projects and prioritizing functions!

Job Summary
The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for strategic development, execution and operational oversight of pharmacy services for Avera Health Plans. This position is responsible for leadership and support of formulary management (reviewing preauthorization requirements, reviewing drug/provider utilization patterns, and pharmacy cost management), clinical pharmacy services (medication therapy management, therapeutic drug monitoring, drug regimen review, patient education, provider education), as well as establishing and measuring performance metrics with regard to patient outcomes, medication safety, medication use policies, and analytical reporting. This position will oversee various projects and approach each in a critical, problem-solving manner, while organizing, leading, and developing teams to execute solutions. The position requires interaction with health system stakeholders, key opinion leaders, vendors, delegated entities, healthcare providers, policy makers, and accreditation and government organizations.
Education and/or Experience
- Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy with equivalent experience.
- Minimum seven years of experience in healthcare industry, managed care organization, pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of management experience.
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Management or equivalent preferred.
- Experience leading/managing multiple simultaneous projects and prioritizing functions.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Current, unrestricted license registered health care profession in the state of South Dakota and other states as required.
