Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, understand English, follow recipes, and do basic adjustment to recipes to meet serving requirements for a meal.
- Experience as a cook or in food preparation in a commercial or industrial kitchen is desired. Must be able to operate kitchen equipment.
- Ability to organize work to accomplish job requirements for meal set-up and serving and to do other dietary duties.
Job Summary
Prepares nourishing, attractive, tasty meals using acceptable food handling, food preparation and serving techniques.
Reports To: Administrator
Essential Job Duties
- Reviews menus before preparing meal and serves meals attractively and according to menu.
- Meets time schedule for preparation and serving of meals and snacks.
- Assists in serving meals using proper proportions and special diet items.
- Follows standardized recipes and special diet orders.
- Ensures that therapeutic diets are prepared and served according to meal plan.
- Assists in maintaining the safety and sanitation of the dietary department.
- Uses proper food handling techniques.
- Assist in receiving and storing incoming foods and supplies.
- Complies with State regulations and established dietary policies and procedures.
- Reports food, supply and equipment needs to the Administrator.
- Dates, labels and stores food properly in the refrigerator, freezer and dry storage.
- Works as a team and helps in all positions.
- Keeps work area clean and organized.
- Attends education presentations as assigned and applies information as directed by supervisor.
- Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
