The Controller is responsible for closing our monthly financials, monitoring our financial controls, leading our accounting team, and driving the results at Avivo with the CFO. The Controller oversees and is responsible for all financial activities, including day-to-day accounting practices, management and reporting, budget, general accounting, adherence to Federal/State Regulations, and ensuring annual audits and the annual Form 990 are completed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and other applicable regulatory standards. The Controller will provide counsel and support to the CFO and Program Directors. The Controller will establish, develop, and maintain internal controls and new financial processing systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure the proper application of GAAP principles in the accounting records and reports. Provide timely and accurate financial statements and statistical reports.
- Manage and review accounting activities related to disbursements, revenues, expenses, collections, payroll, benefits, cost allocations, general ledger and other.
- Establish and maintain respectful, productive, and effective relationships and supervise finance/accounting personnel. Responsibility includes recruiting, training, performance management and developing staff.
- Meet all internal (Avivo management and staff) and external (Avivo business partners) customer service requests and expectations.
- Design, communicate and insure proper operation of internal accounting controls and accounting policies and procedures.
- Partner with Human Resources and manage accounting related aspects of all benefit plans, including the Avivo 401(k) plan.
- Be the liaison with the external audit firm and assist CFO with the preparation for and management of all annual Avivo financial audits.
- Ensure services provided are culturally responsive utilizing best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 5 years of equivalent experience.
- 2 Years of supervision experience/ management experience.
- Experience managing all areas of a finance/accounting department.
PREFERRED:
- CPA certification or master’s degree a plus
- Ability to collaborate, decisive, and demonstrate a strong results-driven approach.
- Ability to make decisions with good judgment.
- Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and/or not-for-profit accounting principles.
- Knowledge of accounting and reporting practices related to government grants/contracts, and PMAP fee for service billing.
