AWG is looking for a person that is skilled in performing research, problem solving, trouble-shooting, and resolution of issues in the AIX server areas and Storage. They will perform assigned tasks with limited assistance from other experienced staff. The job will require working with different technical products. Ideal candidates will have 8-10 years of experience working in an AIX/IBM environment.
This is a hybrid/remote position. However, it will require the candidate to drive to Data Centers to work on systems as needed and to the Corporate office for meetings as scheduled which are located in the Kansas City metro area.
Position Responsibilities:
Drive Continuous Improvement in the AIX environment (50%)
- Monitoring of server environments with open source tools and then the capabilities to provide improvements to the environment based on workload
- Installing patches, upgrades and other related software in a AIX environment using NIM
- Improving the Disaster Recovery capabilities of the AIX environment between Data Centers
- Self motivated with the ability to learn new technologies and execute new skills
- Manage Live Partition Mobility (LPM) between multiple IBM PSeries servers
- Manage Disk Storage allocation among servers
- Experience in advanced administration of IBM PSeries P8 or newer servers, with AIX versions 7.x or newer
Supporting a Production Environment and Assisting Teams on Requirements (50%)
- AIX, SAN, Storage, and Backup experience
- Troubleshooting technical server issues using logical problem solving techniques
- Assist with resolution of Incident, Problem, Request, and Task tickets
- Ability to comprehensively utilize IT industry standard Change Management practices.
- Assist project teams to understand compute and disk storage needs
- Virtualization experience, VIO, NIM, Performance Tuning, Monitoring, HMC enhanced Interface GUI, LPM, Scripting, Security
- This position requires participation in the on-call schedule rotation
Position Requirements:
- 4 year degree and/or work experience. A combination of both is preferred
- Exposure to working with AIX Administration. 1-10 years experience is preferred
- Experience with AIX installs and configuration
- Knowledge and experience with IBM pSeries hardware and firmware
- Knowledge of server administration processes
- Proven strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good analysis, problem-solving and solution skills
- Ability to develop and drive improvements
- Creation of small project plans and a structure to execute the plan until completion
- Strong team player with the ability to be proactive
Preferred Skills:
- Storage-SAN: Brocade, (BNA), SAN/NAV, Infinidat, ,1-5 yrs, (Installations, Admin, Service, troubleshooting, migrations, upgrades)
- Backup Software: 1-5 years experience,Backup and restore experience, incremental backups, (Installations, Admin, Service, troubleshooting, migrations, upgrades)
- ILMT/BigFix: Experience in Administration and Monitoring of Software classifications, Cloud-pak, Fixlets and Tasks, PVU, VPC sub capacity is a plus
