What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher position at AWL Transport?
TLX is looking to hire a dispatcher in Decatur Alabama. This position communicates with drivers, customers, and brokers for the efficient and timely pick-up, delivery, and conveyance of materials, freight, and/or passengers. It includes (among other things) relaying shipment details as arranged with customers and brokers; transmitting accurate information to, and otherwise communicating with, drivers; maintaining contact with drivers throughout their routes to monitor their progress and troubleshoot any problems that may arise along the way; and performing such other duties assigned by a supervisor or manager.
Tasks
- Effectively and timely dispatch drivers to customer locations.
- Monitor driver location and performance on routes.
- Promptly notify appropriate personnel of potential delays and issues in advance of deadlines.
- Communicate with drivers and customers regarding freight details, delivery or pickup times, special handling requests, important notices and announcements, and other relevant information.
- Prepare dispatch documents, as well as generating freight bills and invoices.
- Address minor delivery and pick-up issues raised by drivers, customers, and brokers.
- Work closely with other departments (i.e. customer service, safety, shop, etc.) to resolve issues.
- Document work performed; maintain accurate, organized, and detailed records regarding dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, incidents, as well as delivery and pickup times.
- Comply with all federal and state rules and regulations, company policies and procedures, and insurance guidelines.
- Ensure that drivers maintain compliance with all federal and state rules and regulations, company policies and procedures, and insurance guidelines.
- Escalate issues to appropriate managers/supervisors and departments when necessary and appropriate.
- Follow all company policies and procedures and perform all tasks timely and properly.
Technology
Proficiency in using the following:
- Transportation Management Software – Trimble TMW Truckmate (and/or such other software used by the company).
- Location Tracking Software and Systems.
- Electronic mail software – Microsoft Outlook
- Office suite software – Microsoft Suites
- Telephone System and Text Messaging.

3 years as a truck dispatcher or in a similar or comparable position (preferred).
