What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineer - Summer Internship position at Axalta?
Primary Responsibilities
Axalta’s InventU Internship Program is a world-class program focused on providing interns with real-world experiences in their majors. This program is a strategic people initiative focused on fueling the pipeline for entry level talent into Axalta who not only possess the technical capabilities and potential to grow in Axalta but, possess the values and behaviors as they are aligned with Axalta’s culture.
Our commitment to our interns through our InventU Internship Program is to provide real-world experiences relative to your major. All interns are provided a key project or key projects that have direct and meaningful impact on the business. Our interns become an integral part of the engineering team at the plant and have an opportunity to interact with more seasoned engineers and other functional professionals and leaders. Our interns are provided the opportunity to apply their “book learnings” to real world engineering challenges.
Besides the assignment of functional-based key projects, our InventU internship program also exposes the entire intern cohort to our executives through our weekly “We Paint Futures” Executive speaker series. All interns are provided an opportunity to hear from various members of our Global Leadership team, to learn about the value their role plays in the broader fabric of a global company, and to benefit from their “words of wisdom” shared based upon their experiences. The Q&A session during each discussion provides the interns the opportunity to ask these executives questions relative to Axalta, their role in Axalta or their personal journey.
The third key element to Axalta’s InventU program is the annual “InventU Summer Summit” during which the interns are brought to our global headquarters in Philadelphia. The interns meet and network with each other, meet with executives, hear more about Axalta’s Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, engage in professional development exercises, and experience Philadelphia’s rich history. The highlight of the Summit is a friendly competition among the interns as they present their ideas for solutions to address a business challenge faced by Axalta.
At the conclusion of the program, each intern is required to make a formal business presentation to site leadership discussing their key projects approach, key findings, value, and the results their project provides to the broader Axalta organization. The intern’s ability to link their work to value for the broader organization is a demonstration of critical thinking and business acumen.
