Overview Axle is seeking a highly ambitious, adaptable, structured, and detail oriented Bioinformatic Scientist to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), The Center for Human Immunology (CHI), and Integrated Data Sciences Section (IDSS) in Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities:Provide bioinformatic analysis and data interpretation, programming, and troubleshooting support to the CHI in the dissemination of research data.
- Perform computational data analysis and data management. Specifically, provide bioinformatics support to include but not limited to:
- Omic data analysis, primarily resulting from NGS data generation (Single cell and spatial transcriptomic sequencing, including scRNA-seq, scCITE-seq, scATAC-seq, immune repertoire, 10X Visium, etc.; whole-exome and whole-genome variant analysis; bulk RNA-seq; ChIP-Seq, etc.)
- Statistical modeling, scripting and biological data interpretation
- Integration of research and clinical data for analysis
- Scripting for data transformation, QC, and preprocessing of high-dimensional research data, integration of research and clinical data management, transformation, and automation of complex data analysis, clinical data curation and medical informatics in support of large scale clinical and omic research initiatives
- Work with wet lab staff on experimental design, workflow development, troubleshooting, data analysis, and drafting of manuscripts.
- Address bioinformatics, scientific computing, and data analysis needs of collaborators with the Center for Human Immunology (CHI) by lending expertise in the proper statistical design of biological experiments involving high-throughput technologies, data mining and knowledge discovery techniques, and data workflow applications development as well as performing omic (genomic/NGS, proteomic, etc.) data analysis for research activities and providing statistical and scientific consultancy for omic experimental design, data collection, and platform considerations.
- Master's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. (Ph.D. with postdoctoral experience preferred)
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles, concepts, methods, and standards of statistical research, and the ability to plan, create, program, and manage complex data analyses.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in bioinformatics methods applied to genomics and proteome data.
- Experience working in a laboratory or clinical setting is a plus.
- Experience working with single cell data is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with Flow Cytometry data is a plus.
- Proficient in one or more of bioinformatics programming/scripting languages such as R, Python, etc.
- Knowledge of scientific reporting and manuscript preparation requirements and standards.
- Ability to work in a team environment to design, analyze, and report on research projects.
- Strong analytical communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong focus and quality and timely delivery of work.
- Expertise with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security clearance.
