Job Title: Enterprise Data Architect
Location: Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI), Georgia Tech
The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the enterprise data management platform that supports Business Intelligence (BI), analytical, and reporting needs across various business functions at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). This position will assess GTRI's current data inventories, such as data sources, master data, reference data, data dictionaries, and metadata management. The role also involves defining policies that structure, secure, and manage data assets.
Impact & Influence:This position will regularly interact with GTRI management and personnel, as well as external service providers and Georgia Tech (GT) campus units. As an advisor to the GTRI Enterprise Systems Department (ESD) Director, the Enterprise Data Architect will play a key role in shaping data governance best practices and data stewardship processes across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:Data Strategy Roadmap: Create and implement a short-term and long-term data strategy roadmap aligned with GTRI's strategic initiatives, including Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Data Marts, Operational Data Stores (ODS), Metadata, Master Data, and Big Data (e.g., Data Lake, Data Lakehouse).
Data Architecture Design: Develop, maintain, and evolve the data architecture blueprint and reference architecture for the current, transitional, and future states of GTRI's data ecosystem.
Enterprise Data Model and Architecture: Design conceptual and logical data models and flowcharts that reflect a practical, scalable, and high-quality enterprise data model.
Innovation in Data Technologies: Bring innovative solutions to solve complex data challenges by experimenting with and recommending the latest tools and technologies in the industry.
Data Quality & Integration: Collaborate with the ESD ETL, Data Warehouse, and Reporting teams to gather and store data from both internal and external sources, implementing data quality measures including profiling and data quality rule management.
Data Governance & Security: Work with security, legal, and compliance teams to establish standards, policies, and procedures to ensure proper classification, access management, and security of data assets (in-flight and at rest).
Information Security Management: Oversee information security processes, including data sensitivity analysis, access control systems, audit systems, encryption, and other data protection techniques.
Database Performance Optimization: Collaborate with Database Administrators (DBAs) to optimize Oracle database systems for performance as needed.
Data Visualization Integration: Facilitate the integration of data visualization tools like Tableau and Cognos Analytics with GTRI's data sources to enable reporting, metrics, and data-driven insights.
Experience:
- 10 years of experience in architecting both on-premise and cloud-based enterprise data solutions.
- Strong expertise in Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence (BI), Big Data, Metadata Management, and Master Data solutions (on-prem and cloud).
Core Expertise:
- Proven experience in designing, building, and managing Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and BI platforms.
- Strong knowledge of data process modeling, including conceptual, logical, and physical data architecture, with a focus on scalability, consistency, and quality.
Data Governance and Framework:
- Expertise in establishing and developing an Enterprise Data Management (EDM) framework that aligns with organizational data governance policies.
Data Visualization:
- Experience with PowerBI, Tableau, and Cognos Analytics for reporting and visualization.
Technology Platforms:
- Knowledge of MuleSoft, IBM DataStage, and other integration tools and platforms.
Data Integration Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of structured and unstructured data, batch and real-time integrations, and data management principles.
Programming & Scripting Skills:
- Strong knowledge of data integration, scripting, programming, and workflow development.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technology field.
Certifications:
- Relevant industry certifications in data management, cloud technologies, or BI tools are a plus.
Citizenship:
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
