Optical Research Physicist/ Materials Engineer

Azimuth Corporation is seeking an experienced Optical Research Physicist/ Materials Engineer, in support of the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), OH. The ideal candidate will have experience in the areas of optics and photonics to join a vibrant and active research effort relating to the computational simulation and inverse design of spatially and temporally modulated meta surfaces and metamaterials.
Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Exploration and design of metamaterials and meta surfaces for optical and RF communications
• Develop & apply advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) techniques to computational electromagnetics simulations
• Collaborate with internal and external teammates, customers, and partners to create objectives and work plans, review designs, support experimentation, and/or transition technical designs.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD: Physics, Optics, Materials Science & Engineering, or a closely related science or engineering field
• Experience in computational materials simulation: the ideal candidate will have experience with photonics, optics, and/or computational electromagnetics modeling and simulation
• Experience developing AI/ML models with software packages such as scikit-learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Theano, and/or Keras
• Ability and desire to quickly learn new techniques, devise research plans, and develop expertise in technical topics related to photonics, optics, computational electromagnetics, and AI/ML
• Proficiency in Python; desired experience with scientific python packages including NumPy, SciPy, Matplotib, scikit, and pandas
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems (e.g. Ubuntu, Red Hat) including the use of a terminal environment and bash scripting
• Proficiency in advanced data analysis and visualization
• Ability to obtain/maintain security clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required).

Physical Requirements / Travel

• Must be able to work in an office environment at a desk and computer.
• May travel ~10% to conferences, program reviews, industry meetings, or other collaborative events. Most or all travel would be CONUS.
