This role is full-time and open to remote applicants.

Pay Range: $140,000 - $200,000
This pay range is intended for in-person work in our Berkeley, CA headquarters. Pay ranges for remote-eligible roles will be subject to adjustment based on the geolocation of the employee.

What You’ll Do:

As the Full Stack Drupal Developer, you will support Backroads’ mission through design, development, and delivery of cutting-edge web experiences for users. You will be responsible for full stack development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, XML/JSON, and responsive web design techniques, to help design, develop, and deliver web experiences. You will participate in all phases of web application development life cycle, including requirements gathering and analysis, system design and development, testing, and implementation.

Building and developing stakeholder(s) relationships will be integral to the position. You will serve as point person for the Marketing organization in creating and maintaining processes/procedures for new sites and you will train staff to use and troubleshoot problems with the Drupal Content Management Systems. You will need to collaborate closely with IT and Product staff to troubleshoot, test, and oversee the launch of new websites features and functionality. You will also manage peer code reviews, quality assurance (QA), and user acceptance testing (UAT) for all web projects, in coordination with vendors as needed.

Principal duties include:

  • Front-end/back-end development and deployment with Drupal
  • User experience (UX) research and design, user interface (Ul) development, creation of end-user documentation, and training materials
  • Customization and use of Drupal Content Management Systems
  • Design user experience for applications after grooming user stories with team
  • Work with Designer(s) to produce user-centered design materials such as site maps, taxonomies, wireframes and prototypes
  • Conduct usability testing on prototypes or finished applications to assess the quality of a user experience
  • Build user interfaces to support back-end processes
  • Integrate third party services and API's with existing systems
  • Plan out coding standards, environments, and suggesting best practices

Who You Are:

You have hands-on experience in a multitude of domains; including, but not limited to; 24 x 7 x 365 enterprise and cloud infrastructure, thoughtful design and management of systems, security, business continuity, and disaster recovery. You have demonstrated creativity, problem-solving skills, strong work-ethic, and attention to detail. You have the ability to work productively in a collaborative environment, and to encourage new ideas and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally in writing and in person.

What You’ll Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Computer Science or Information Technology, Graphic Design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of experience in web design and development, including 3 years of hands-on experience implementing web sites in Drupal, and 3 years of experience in UX Design, with deep expertise in designing for large, complex websites
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot issues to determine root cause analysis, propose resolution, gain consensus if needed, and implement the solution
  • Understanding of and adherence to dev ops and software development life cycle methods and best practices
  • Proficiency working with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, XML/JSON, LAMP environment.
  • Experience designing mobile-friendly, responsive websites and user interfaces that are cross-platform, cross-browser, and/or cross-device compatible
  • Experience defining base themes and building sub-themes from them
  • Experience converting layered design mockups into Drupal themes
  • Experience with modern front-end JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience measuring and optimizing front-end performance
  • Experience in integrating with analytics tools (Tableau/Google Analytics/Power BI)
  • Commitment to user experience principles and best practices
  • Ability to develop elegantly designed back-end code to support visually rich websites
  • Experience integrating data from various APIs and XML data sources
  • Experience building sites with Drupal and Drupal technologies such as Drush, Views, and Rules
  • Advanced Drupal developer experience, including basic Drupal module development principles
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger remote team, and handle multiple assignments
  • Advanced experience working with a team in shared version-controlled environment such as GitHub

What We’d Like You to Have:

  • Experience working in Agile development environment
  • Visual regression test via automated services
  • Experience with user research (usability testing, user interviews, etc)
  • Drupal theming, front-end/backend web development experience (4 years)
  • User Experience (UX) Design and UI Development experience (3 years)
  • Familiarity with the Drupal Community
  • Drupal Module Development
  • Strong experience working in a LAMP production environment
  • Experience working in Acquia hosted Drupal environment
