What You Will Contribute: This influential position is part of a progressive and growing legal department based in Milwaukee, consisting of a five-lawyer corporate legal law team and a nine-member multi-disciplinary competitive proposals and contracts team. You will support the company’s needs regarding certain commercial transactions in its most visible market, the U.S. water utility space. Working closely with the proposals team, you will provide legal guidance, advice and support to that team throughout the commercial proposal process providing legal risk analysis for customer-driven bidding and proposal request specifications, assist with building proposal documents, reviewing proposals, advising on insurance and bonds, and negotiating the resulting contracts that range from less than $500,000 to over $100 Million. The position will interact with all levels and areas of the company, in particular the sales and marketing departments and is able to contribute directly to the company’s success. Under the supervision of the Assistant General Counsel (AGC), the position applies education, experience and skills to perform challenging and rewarding work relating to the proposals team’s legal and risk management needs. Understand legal research methodologies Effectively update AGC on all work projects through regular reports and meetings. Perform first-level review/approval of invoices and budgets associated with assigned projects. Maintain basic metrics, reported to the AGC monthly. Participate in Continuing Legal Education Credits, required for State Licensure, for your education on subject areas that benefit the Company’s needs, as approved by the AGC. Observe and exhibit compliance with the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and the Company Policies and Procedures - be a role model for ethical behavior and decision-making Additional projects, tasks, and/or assignments as assigned by the AGC or the VP-GC & Secretary. QUALIFICATIONS: 5 years of related experience Related Experience: Practical experience in commercial transactions, preferably in an industrial products / manufacturing environment, either from an inhouse or a law firm support position. Experience with government contracts, warranties, sales/marketing support, software/SAAS and/or general corporate compliance are a plus. J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, licensed to practice law in at least one state. If not admitted in Wisconsin, be registered or have the eligibility to register for Wisconsin’s in-house counsel registration.
