What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialized Hardware & Software Administrator (PEVS) position at BAE Systems?
Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking a specialized HW & SW Administrator who will support a Department of Justice (DOJ) Prisoner Enrolment and Verification System “PEVS” system.
The PEVS is an information-sharing system as well as a conduit for sending standard booking data directly to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI’s) Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS). PEVS receives common offender data elements (biographical data, fingerprints, and photographs) from automated booking stations and booking systems of DOJ law enforcement components and certain other federal law enforcement agencies and maintains a shared repository that can be accessed by all participating agencies.
The purpose of PEVS is to (1) automate and accelerate the booking process, and (2) enable authorized entities to access booking information for criminal investigations and other law enforcement needs. The daily scope of what our Specialized HW & SW Admin will experience, includes but is not limited to PC workstation(s), fingerprint scanners, flatbed scanners, digital cameras, signature pads, and printers. The goals for each Admin are to ensure these components remain up and running upon troubleshooting intakes or tickets, and to ensure all new hardware and application devices are tested.
The Day-to-day work includes:
- Integrating customer systems with the other agency’s systems as required to allow access to their resources, which takes on many shapes; from establishing a path to access their (state or local) websites via the customer network to getting a hard line back to the customer office space to allow Task Force Officers to remotely connect to their home agency.
- Configuring and/or troubleshooting accesses to the system from their locations on a routine or ad hoc basis.
- Supporting the setup and support of State & Local systems and connections, to include: PC workstations, peripheral devices, and network connections.
- Supervising other engineers or admins if necessary.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- 2 to 3 years of consistent full-time employment as an IT Systems Administrator
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- The ability to provide examples of both application and hardware troubleshooting experience and a drive to learn new systems and technology
- Experience with printer and other peripheral device troubleshooting
- A demonstrated strong understanding of Microsoft Active Directory
- Experience working in a service desk environment using a ticketing system such as Remedy or Service Now (SNOW)
- The ability to successfully supervise others
- Ability to work under pressure and/or intense situations with ease
- Must meet the citizenship requirements to obtain US Government Security Clearance
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Experience with PEVS or JABS systems
- A certification
- Networking experience
