Individuals within this job classification are accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting care activities in accordance with BMC standards in order to deliver efficient, effective and quality patient care. The Registered Nurse (RN) must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs. The RN is to plan for the provision of patient care including the development, modification and implementation of the plan of care in accordance with BMC standards in order to deliver efficient, effective and quality patient care as described in the Patient Care policies and procedures. He/she is expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
1. Demonstrates knowledge of conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for unit specific patient populations.
2. Continually assesses patients' physical, psychological, social, and educational needs to determine levels and types of care.
3. Implements, prioritizes, and maintains plan of care based on acuity level, identified needs, physician orders, patient problems, goals, and interventions. Effectively evaluates the outcomes of interventions and implements necessary changes to plan of care.
4. Delegates and supervises patient care activities that may safely be performed by others, consistent with educational preparation and that do not conflict with the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
5. Administers medications and treatments effectively and skillfully (See Unit Specific Competency Validation Checklist).
6. Demonstrates safe and effective use of equipment. (See Unit Specific Competency Validation Checklist)
7. Demonstrates competency in managing potential patient risks, i.e., falls, need for restraints, isolation (See Unit Specific Competency Validation Checklist).
8. Collaborates with other health professionals in the management of health care.
9. Documents assessments, interventions (including use of supplies and equipment),education, and outcomes of care accurately, objectively, and timely.
10. Demonstrates knowledge of patient rights. Serves as an advocate for patient/families in regard to decisions affecting the plan of care. Has knowledge of process for resolution of ethical dilemmas.
11. Reviews and checks all orders during and before the end of the shift to assure the orders have been released and acknowledged.
