As a Health, Safety and Environment Lead, you will provide HSE leadership and support for laboratory operations, research, and development (R&D), and prototype testing for carbon capture technologies. You will lead and promote compliance with Baker Hughes HSE procedures and applicable regulatory requirements, ensuring that associated HSE hazards and risks are well-managed and controlled.
As the HSE Lead, you will:
- Develop, implement, and manage site-specific health and safety programs to manage site-specific risks as needed.
- Communicate and promote compliance with Baker Hughes HSE policies, procedures, and updates to all employees.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and safety assurance of critical operations and engage with stakeholders to ensure implementation of corrective/improvement actions to mitigate identified risks.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HSE regulations and standards, including preparing and submitting regulatory reports and documentation. Ensure facility and operations compliance with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals used in R&D operations, maintain accurate chemical inventory and safety data sheets (SDS) and provide HSE training on chemical safety and specific emergency response procedures.
- Develop and implement site-specific industrial hygiene assessment and monitoring programs to manage and control potential health hazards and risks to employees in laboratory operations.
- Develop and maintain a site-specific Emergency Response Plan (ERP) to include emergency scenarios. Conduct regular safety drills and emergency preparedness exercises to test the effectiveness of ERP and coordinate with local emergency services and regulatory bodies when needed.
- Engage with site and business unit leadership to promote a culture of HSE reporting, lead/participate in HSE incidents/near-miss investigations and steward corrective actions to closure.
- Drive overall site HSE Performance metrics, maintain HSE performance records and perform periodic trends and analyses to identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement and manage environmental protection programs to include hazardous waste disposal according to regulatory requirements and environmental sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction and recycling.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to air emissions, effluents, and waste and perform periodic environmental reporting as per applicable regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for HSE matters within the facility, including internal Business Performance Reviews and interface with external regulatory agencies.

To be successful in this role you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety & Environmental Science, Engineering, or any related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an HSE role, preferably in a lab or research environment.
- In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations and standards such as OSHA, EPA, CERS, CCOHS (Canada)
- Experience with chemical safety and hazardous materials management.
- Extensive analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent communication and training abilities.
- Ability to work in a lab environment where chemicals and hazardous materials are handled.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in HSE management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) are preferred.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
