What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Baker's Crust?
Baker's Crust, Inc. is seeking a Controller to work on-site at the Corporate Office in Virginia Beach, VA and oversee the day-to-day accounting and the accuracy of weekly, period and annual financial reporting. The Controller is responsible for the management of the Senior Accountant and Inventory Analyst.
In addition to being the team lead for members of the accounting department, the Controller:
- Provides accounting and analytic support to the Company's "Baker's Crust Artisan Kitchen" restaurants, and affiliate businesses "The Neighborhood Harvest" home delivery business & "Quemar" restaurant,
- Ensures accurate mapping of the point-of-sale connection with the Company's accounting system,
- Approves corporate level invoices,
- Manages cash flow and executes weekly check runs,
- Reviews and processes bi-weekly payroll,
- Approves all new hires into ADP WorkforceNow,
- Reconciles monthly bank statements,
- Reviews weekly, period and annual financial statements and presents to the CEO and Board of Directors,
- Meets with CEO to review the Company's period financial performance,
- Files monthly sales taxes and reports monthly store sales to landlords,
- Records period close journal entries and oversees the period close process,
- Ensures collection of bakery and catering receivables,
- Submits annual ABC MBAR filings, health and fire permit filings, quarterly Bureau of Labor Statistics reports, and annual Census Department reports,
- Submits annual personal property tax filings,
- Gathers year-end tax data to submit to tax accountants,
- Acts as point-of-contact for workers' compensation audits,
- Analyzes food, beverage and supplies cost, communicates pertinent data to the CEO and advise on menu pricing,
- Assists the CEO with ad-hoc reporting,
- Manages records database and ensures transaction supporting documentation is saved and retained appropriately.
Requirements for this position include:
- 5 years of public accounting experience
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal ("soft") skills
- Experience with Toast POS, Restaurant365 and ADP preferred
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the Company's office in Virginia Beach
- Must be willing to submit to credit and criminal background screening
