The Discovery Center Manager helps to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Baker University Wetlands’ Discovery Center and the Wakarusa Field Station (WFS). Duties include basic upkeep and cleanliness of these facilities, routine maintenance, and care of pollinator gardens and grounds immediately adjacent to Discovery Center and WFS. The Discovery Center Manager oversees all facility rentals by acting as the main point-of-contact for groups and organizations interested in renting any of the Baker University Wetlands facilities. They maintain up-to-date and accurate policy handbooks and check-in/check-out WFS guests. The Discovery Center Manager coordinates Discovery Center greeters and volunteers and maintains the Discovery Center bird observation board. They work closely with other Wetlands’ staff by assisting the Naturalist Supervisor with educational displays, programs, and field trips; and the Facilities and Operations Manager in basic land management duties. This is a part-time, 28-29 hr/week position that requires some evening and weekend hours. The Discovery Center Manager reports to the Naturalist Supervisor.
Job Requirements:
High school diploma, or equivalent. Experience with basic lawn and garden care equipment (i.e. trimmers, mowers, etc.), with the ability to: work with individuals from various backgrounds; communicate well, both orally and written; maintain volunteer and rental calendars; trouble-shoot and fix minor maintenance issues; work well under pressure of deadlines; work as a team member with a willingness to help where and when needed; make sound decisions and to work independently. Must also be organized, detail-oriented, with good time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree; Basic knowledge of native plants and weeds frequently seen in gardens and lawns; Experience in event space management and social media; Up-to-date CPR and first aid training
