Job Summary :

The Food Safety and Sanitation Specialist, Food Processing will be responsible for assisting the Director of Quality and the Senior Manager of Sanitation, Food Processing with developing, implementing, monitoring, and auditing compliance of sanitation protocols to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and food safety regulations as well as compliance to Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards.

The Food Safety and Sanitation Specialist reports direct-line to the Director of Quality and has dotted-line reporting responsibility to the Senior Manager of Sanitation, Food Processing.

Responsibilities / Duties :

  • Assist the Director of Quality with building and enhancing strategic sanitation programs and processes to ensure plant operations meet sanitation requirements for machinery, equipment, facility, and grounds.
  • Assists the Director of Quality with the development, implementation, and monitoring of all company policies relating to safety and food safety : Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), the Safe Quality Foods (SQF) standard, and the facilities Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS).
  • Responsible for monitoring cleaning chemicals, preparing sanitizers, adjusting chemical concentrations, and handling and storing of chemicals.
  • Perform routine facility walkthroughs and pre-operational inspection audits. Communicates findings to the Senior Manager of Sanitation, Food Processing and the Director of Quality.
  • Conducts environmental swabbing, ATP swabbing, and swabbing of equipment post cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement to reduce food safety risk, maintains a clean food-safe plant environment, and cleans equipment as directed by the Senior Manager of Sanitation.
  • Evaluate sanitation department performance and conduct tests for verification of Sanitation Programs through machine clean time studies and cross-contamination monitoring of Sanitation Teams.

Qualifications (include education, experience, specialized skills / knowledge, certifications required) :

  • High School Diploma or GED required. College or technical degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferably in sanitation and / or manufacturing.
  • Strong planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Relationship of Job to Food Safety and Quality

  • Ensure that GMPs are being followed every time you enter the production floor.
  • Report any Food Safety or Quality issues to the Director of Quality or the Senior Manager of Sanitation.

Physical Environment :

This position is in a manufacturing facility and involves standing, lifting, bending and walking for extended periods throughout the day.

Will be working with the following allergens on a daily basis : Peanuts, Tree nuts, Milk, Eggs, Soy, Wheat, Fish.
