SUMMARY
The person in this position is responsible for the supervision of the Quality Assurance Department. The supervisor will provide leadership and direction to their team to obtain quality food products under a safe environment, cost control, and customer orientation. The supervisor acts as the leader in managing compliance to SQF, Bakkavor Standards, Regulatory (USDA / FDA) and Special Certifications ( Kosher, Organic) and customer defined requirements. The supervisor will provide plant level Quality Assurance and Food Safety Training and work cross-functionally with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Warehousing team. This position reports to the Technical Manager/ Quality Assurance Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, but are not limited to:
- Select, train and supervise department employees; evaluate performance to assure adherence to performance standards, taking corrective action as required. Maintain awareness of employees needs and concerns and take steps necessary to foster a positive and respectful work environment.
Department Management Support
- Observe strict product quality and food safety specifications, based on SQF, Bakkavor, customer’s requirements and/or regulatory agencies, and takes the lead to work with other plant departments to enforce such specifications.
- Conducts reviews and evaluation of quality and food safety data and prepare monthly quality/food safety reports.
- Participates on budget development to assure sound financial results for department and company.
- Able to work effectively with other team members within department and cross-functionally
- Maintains laboratory and QA stations supplied (including properly calibrated equipment) assures sanitary and safe conditions for QA tasks. Responsible to maintain proper inventory levels of supplies related to QA activities.
- Responsible for coordinating the staffing of department to assure proper support to manufacturing team.
- Supervises and coordinates QA staff to assure compliance to product analytical, sensory, microbiological, regulatory and environmental testing.
- Develop and maintain site specific procedures for QA/QC daily operations.
- Conducts employee performance review, coaching and disciplinary action of employees in accordance with company policies.
Departmental Systems/Process
- Assures that pre-operation and operational Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s).
- Conducts ongoing product review to assure analytical, sensory and microbiological compliance to specifications.
- Reviews quality assurance instructions, assembly specifications, and production schedules to determine method of conducting inspections and tests, sequence of operations, and work assignments.
- Assures the proper handling and disposition of non-conforming products. Leads cross-functional team to identify root cause of deviations and corrective/preventive actions.
- Follows company non-conforming policies and works with senior management to assure proper disposition of materials/products.
- Conducts and manage Internal GMP Audits, Glass & Hard Plastic Audits, Verification of CCPs and issue nonconformance reports and follows up on the implementation of Corrective/Preventative Actions (CAPA) with relevant departmental managers.
- Implements and monitors environmental monitoring program and sanitation cleaning validation.
- Conducts customer/consumer feedback investigations at plant level and provide root causes of deviation and corrective/preventive action plans.
- Maintains raw data and statistical information on quality parameters and provide it to both management and external entities, as required.
- Oversees plant IMTE (Inspection, Measuring and Testing Equipment) calibration program.
- Performs daily positive release of finished goods.
- Participates in customer visits and 3rd party audits representing the technical group.
- Assures that product retain samples are properly catalogued, stored and maintained.
- Conduct and reports on safety, quality and food safety internal audits.
- Monitors plant sanitation activities and reports non-compliance to Management team.
- Other duties as assigned by technical and site management team.
- Maintains working areas/environment safe and organized.
Leadership
- Provides training in the areas of quality, food safety and regulatory to associates and QA staff.
- Able to prioritize departmental tasks to assure team’s responsibilities are complete timely and efficiently.

- Works with senior technical management for the development, implementation and monitoring of company’s quality/food safety initiatives and Bakkavor Standards.
- Conducts ongoing product review to assure compliance to HACCP Plan requirements. Works with senior management on HACCP deviations.
- Works with technical staff on the development of specifications and test methodology.
- Customer Focus
- Supports the resolution of customer complaints and identification of root causes and corrective/preventive actions.
- Management retains the discretion to add or change the duties of the position at any time.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYThis position is responsible for supervising and directing all the functions of Quality Assurance Technicians and Leads on 1st and 2nd shift.FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for oversight of their areas of responsibility of the plant’s Food Safety & Quality Management Systems. This position provides oversight and guidance to staff members to ensure the manufacturing of quality food and is responsible for identifying product that does not meet the food safety and quality requirements of the company, and preventing its distribution.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- B.S. degree from a 4- year university In Food Science or related field is preferred.
- Five years food industry or equivalent experience required.
- HACCP Certification required
- 3 years’ experience in a supervisory/management position.
- Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting, cause finding and taking corrective actions to address QA issues in a high-pressure environment.
- Solid understanding of food safety.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to get results through mentoring others
- Proficiency in computer skills, Microsoft Office (Windows, Outlook, Excel) with the ability to learn new applications
LANGUAGE SKILLS AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, technical journals and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Fluent in English, Spanish preferred.
