What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scale Operator position at Balcones Recycling?
The scale house operator is responsible for helping to maintain the day-to-day operation and administrative duties associated with operation of the scale. This position requires a detail-oriented person able to maintain focus in a fast-paced processing plant. This position reports to the Business Operations Manager.
- Work hours are Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- May need to work from 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on occasion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Operate scale house computers to obtain weight information for incoming recycle haulers and outbound shipments.
- Compare scale tickets and bills of lading to verify accuracy of shipment contents and weights
- Operates traffic control devices to allow vehicles to proceed to tipping area and exit from facility
- Issues receipts to vehicle driver and collects tickets
- Maintain accurate overall record keeping for reporting and analysis
- Use of radio communications with worksite operators
- Communicating with haulers and truck drivers
- Communicating with Supervisors and Peers, providing information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, written form, and email and in person.
- Performing day to day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
- Maintain, monitor, and clean work areas, counters, windows and area around scale office
- Follows company safety policies and procedures to prevent injuries and accidents
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
- Use computers to enter data and process information
- Detail oriented in obtaining, documenting and recording information from all relevant sources
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work well in a noisy environment
- Organized and punctual
- A positive attitude is essential
- Interact with truck drivers, haulers, vendors, customers in a friendly and professional manner

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- HS diploma or equivalent
- Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Able to function under minimal supervision.
