Ballard is seeking a Cybersecurity Test Engineer for a permanent full-time position. The successful applicant will work as a member of Ballard's Product Safety team.  Work will initially focus on establishing a cybersecurity test lab and performing penetration and vulnerability testing to support compliance of Ballard products to cybersecurity standards.  Additional scope of work will include developing improvements to Ballard safety-critical and cybersecurity software verification approaches.  
 
Candidates will be required to: 
Test cybersecurity systems and monitor their effectiveness.
Constantly strive to find vulnerabilities in hardware, software, and applications.
Respond to security breaches and investigate how they occurred.
Work with Ballard and customer stakeholders to ensure products meet required cybersecurity levels.
Report to technical teams and management on potential threats, proposed improvements, and ongoing cybersecurity issues.
Work with engineering teams to develop effective solutions and approaches to cybersecurity issues.
Analyze product field data using appropriate tools, and determine if it indicates potential vulnerabilities in the product.
Follow sound engineering practice regarding design documentation, document control, change management and failure investigations.
Occasional travel (~5%) may be required to support customer projects and standards development.
 
Qualifications:
 
Bachelor of Science degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Applied Science or Engineering.  Related experienced is an advantage.
Experience with cybersecurity threat analysis and software verification.
Familiarity with cybersecurity verification tools such as Metasploit, Open VAS, Nmap, or Zap.
Familiarity with standard security testing such as SAST, DAST, Fuzz testing, intrusion testing
Programming language literacy (e.g. C, C , HTML, Javascript, structured text, MATLAB/Simulink)
Understanding of Linux security systems and embedded controllers/ECUs
Familiarity with ISO21434 and automotive embedded systems an asset.
Strong oral & written communications skills.
 
 
The typical hiring range for this position is CAD$75,000 - CAD$100,000 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our competitive annual short-term and long-term bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
