GRADE: 03/OPE - $67,134 to $105,865 (Annual Salary Scale for Exempt 12-Month Employees Represented by BCPSOPE 2024-2025 Effective July 1, 2024)

REPORTS TO: Fiscal Supervisor III, General Accounting

DEFINITION: Under the supervision of the Fiscal Supervisor, performs a variety of professional accounting duties. Assists the fiscal supervisor with account reconciliations. Maintains the system chart of accounts tables and operational system tables. Reviews the daily processing of jobs and interfaces and reviews for accuracy. Reviews journal entries for proper backup and coding. Processes manual disbursement documents.

Examples Of Duties

  • Review and update policies and procedures for the office of Accounting.
  • Maintains the chart of accounts tables for all accounts.
  • Processes interfaces and uploads of transactions to the financial system.
  • Reviews journal entries for proper backup documentation and accurate coding and approvals.
  • Processes manual disbursement documents in the financial system to record ACH disbursements.
  • Reviews nightly cycle processing results to ensure all necessary jobs ran and completed successfully.
  • Processes periodic batch and chain jobs in the financial system and monitors for completion.
  • Maintain open and close periods in the financial and human resources/payroll system.
  • Reviews rejected payroll transactions for correction and follows up with accountants and supervisors to gather correction data.
  • Assists the Fiscal Supervisor with account reconciliations.
  • Acts as backup system administrator to the Fiscal Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, plus one year of professional accounting experience. Experience in governmental accounting is preferred.

Note: Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the principals and practices of professional accounting. Knowledge of automated accounting systems. Knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting business practices. Knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office software applications.

Skill in organizing, preparing, and maintaining data in electronic and paper formats. Skill in maintaining and analyzing ledgers, journals, and other accounting records and statements. Skill in use of spreadsheets, word processors, and databases. Skill in communicating effectively. Skill maintaining accurate records and preparing reports.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to operate the Advantage Financial System. Ability to serve as a back up to and assist the Advantage Financial System Administrator.

Physical And Environmental Conditions

The work of this class is generally sedentary and performed in an office environment.

This class specification defines the types of duties and level of difficulty of work required of positions in this title. It shall not be held to exclude duties not mentioned nor limit the right of management to assign work to employees.

Factors such as passage of time since the offense, the nature of the violation, and the extent of rehabilitation will be taken into consideration.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience, you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Badges and Benefits session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
