Job Description
Summary and Overview
Peer Support Monitors are the closest point of contact between the organization and our clients overnight. Peer Support Monitors must have effective communication skills and advanced ability to connect with people of many backgrounds.
Peer Support Monitors draw from lived experience to become experts, leaders and guides for Baltimore Safe Haven's clients.
Shifts assist with issues that may require guidance during all hours for clients.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Providing peer mentoring, navigation and non-medical assistance.
- Provide harm reduction materials and education concerning safer sex and overdose prevention if needed.
- Providing essential services such as food, laundry and other supplies needed.
- Occasionally assist with outreach targeted areas within Baltimore City known to attract sex workers, people who use drugs and / or people experiencing homelessness in order to provide or connect them to services.
- Maintain accurate and timely data reporting regarding overnight encounters, materials and / or services.
- Building cleaning , dusting and trash removal.
- General supervision and management of clients in our space.
- Other mission-related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of the needs and experiences of TLGBQ people in Baltimore, especially people who are transgender.
- Highly organized, detail oriented and proactive.
- Friendly, engaging, confident and always willing to help.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Mental health experience.
- Comfort with engaging people who are living in survival mode.
- Preferred : a valid driver's license.
