District Position Description

Position Title: Bus Driver
Reports To: Transportation Director
Valid license to drive a school bus with appropriate CDL.
Such additional health and age requirements as the Board may require.
Job Goal: To transport students to and from school, school related activities, field trips, sporting events, etc., in a safe and efficient manner.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Obeys all traffic laws;

Observes all safety regulations for school buses;
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus;
Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority;
Keeps assigned bus clean;
Keeps to assigned schedule;
Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects;
Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness;
Discharges students only at authorized stops;
Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips;
Transports only authorized students;
Reports all accidents and completes required reports;
Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus;
Participates in required training (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned;
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the transportation director.
Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100° and below 32° and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud, requiring the employee to raise his/her voice to be heard. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to bus duties requiring lifting/moving of items weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional local travel and/or overnight travel may be required.
Term of Employment: The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full-time and/or part-time employment during an entire school year.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
