Essential Tasks

  • Must exhibit professional conduct and possess effective communication skills,
  • Must work with site leadership to ensure site personnel compliance with policies, procedures, and technical processes.
  • Engage workers, site leadership, customers, and contractor representatives in EHS related discussions and provide coaching to promote a proactive EHS culture. 
  • Prioritize and conduct daily field walks where the work is being performed to proactively manage site safety risks and provide coaching.
  • Escalate issues, concerns and gaps identified in policies, procedures, and technical processes to management.
  • Capable of Leading safety briefing and stretch/flex activity,  
  • Calibrate and use 4 gas monitor, anemometer, noise measurement, and similar measuring devices/instrumentation.
  • Collect, record and document site conditions using anemometer, photoionization detector, 4 gas detector, decibel noise meter, silica photometer.
  • Coordinate and track training matrix for worksite specific employees with BGI Training Manager
  • Serve as a competent person in excavation and heavy equipment safety.  
  • Capable of passing client safety training exams on radiological work, heavy metal exposure hazards, asbestos containing materials.
  • Conducts safety inspections and evaluates specific project hazard exposures and risks to verify that all safety programs are maintained in good, compliant working order.
  • Conducts inspections of personal protective equipment and other safety equipment
  • Reports safety activities, such as audits, non-compliance findings, permits, Job Hazard Analyses, orientations, trainings, inspections, incident reports, etc.
  • Recommends actions to satisfy Client, Contractor and OSHA requirements related to providing a safe work environment
  • Leads, facilitates, and attends specific job-related meetings with subcontractors, Contractor and Client staff, as required to support work in the field
  • May be required to perform additional job duties that are not listed


Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or related field and a minimum of five years of experience in construction safety; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; certain project assignments may require industry specific knowledge or certifications, such as prior semiconductor or nuclear industry experience.


Licenses or Certifications 

  • CSP or CIH or CHST (Preferred) 
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry   OR   OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry


Required Abilities:

  • Managing and applying safety concepts in the workplace
  • Performing safety audits and inspections, identifying hazards, analysing results, and proposing recommendations in at the worksite and in the offices.
  • Conducting effective inspections and evaluations of occupational safety hazards. 
  • Managing and leading a diverse group of workers on a large construction site under the pressure of deadlines and budgets.
  • Interpreting and applying OSHA and other federal, state and local rules and regulations relating to construction and environmental safety procedures.
  • Recommend and implement safe workplace policies and procedures including those related to chemical, biological, radiation, nuclear (CBRN) safety and health on specific assignments.
  • Interpret and apply construction standards and procedures to physical environment and work processes, applicable federal, state and local rule and regulations
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, public officials, client representatives and regulatory agencies.
  • Providing orientation, guiding, escorting official site visitors in the worksite.
  • Perform work under tight deadlines and during emergency situations.
  • Effectively communication both verbally and in writing.
  • Effectively perform public speaking/in-person training to workers
  • Maintain organization in day-to-day job duties
  • Conducting research as needed 
  • Coordinating safety projects and field construction
  • Operating and performing various Microsoft Office Applications.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed outdoors at construction sites and in a standard office environment. 
  • Depending on location, harsh weather conditions may be present, including extreme heat, moisture or cold
  • Constant walking and occasional to frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing for job site inspections is a regular function of the position

Occasional sitting, climbing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 lbs, crouching, and reaching is required of the position.

Must pass a drug test, physical, and background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy.
