Job Purpose
Originates mortgage and consumer loans. May also originate some agricultural and commercial loans. Promotes the bank and its lending services to the community and helps to identify and serve the community’s financial needs through loan counseling, seminars and sales meetings, and by participating in and promoting the bank’s community activities. Provides friendly, quality client service and treats clients with respect and dignity, either in person or on the phone.
Essential Functions
Core Responsibilities
- Solicits loans.
- Receives residential mortgage loan applications.
- Completes each loan application and all pre-processing functions in a timely manner to permit the loan estimate to be mailed within the required three business day period, as appropriate.
- Screens loan requests based on bank policies and on types of loans offered by the institution.
- Offers or negotiates terms of residential mortgage loans presented to clients and prospects.
- Orders credit reports, background checks, reference checks, and other information as needed.
- Collects past due loans and tracks delinquencies.
- May maintain and submit a source of business log monthly to supervisor.
- May identify potential clients, perform sales calls, and solicit new business.
- Provides outstanding client service to clients seeking residential mortgage and consumer loans. Answers inbound calls, makes outbound calls, handles client inquiries and answers client questions. Responds to email or electronic inquiries and loan requests.
- Interviews applicants to obtain information concerning their needs and pertinent financial and credit data.
- Communicates with prospective loan clients of the bank’s underwriting guidelines and applicable government regulations.
- Communicates complex approvals or denials to the borrower, real estate agent, or builder.
- Partners with Bank Iowa team members to complete mortgage and consumer lending loans
General Responsibilities
- May distribute market data and general loan information to the real estate community as directed by bank management.
- May promote and participate in the bank’s special credit programs and other CRA programs.
- Actively participates in local business and community activities and maintains close contact with local builders, real estate brokers and agents, clients, and prospects.
- Has access to confidential information about clients and accounts. Protects the privacy and confidentiality of clients, other team members, and work.
- Performs other bank related duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Understands and complies with banking regulations by following bank policies and procedures. Stays abreast of relevant regulations, current industry matters, and any changes implemented internally to ensure compliance.
Requirements
Required Education & Experience
- 1-2 years’ experience in a financial institution or loan office setting
Additional Qualifications Include
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field preferred
- Knowledge of documents needed for mortgage or various consumer type loans

Hours of Work & Travel
- Full time, regular employment
- Days and hours of operation vary with each Bank Iowa location. May work weekends.
- Travel may be required
