Job Purpose
A Retail Branch Manager oversees the operation of one bank location while supervising retail staff, providing superior client experience, promoting bank services in the community to current and prospective clients, leading business development goals and objectives and promoting the bank’s community involvement activities. Responsible for the development and growth of the retail branch’s key drivers to include growth of branch deposits, loans, net income, operating budget, and development of team members. Branch Managers are expected to drive branch performance results through strong individual sales performance in addition to coaching and leadership, ensuring the team meets and exceeds branch goals and business development, quality of work, and client experience goals while maintaining an operationally efficient and compliant branch.
Essential Functions
Core Responsibilities
- Attains individual and branch performance goals for loan volume, deposit growth, referrals, business development and client experience performance.
- Prospects for new clients and cultivates existing relationships to increase profitability and reduce costs.
- Prospects new clients by making outbound calls to solicit new business and promote brand awareness.
- Prospects new and existing clients to identify their financial goals and ways of reaching those goals.
- Responsible for the overall leadership of branch activities, including but not limited to, business development, sales and service, credit, community leadership, compliance standards and facilities management.
- Performs all daily activities of running a branch including operating a teller drawer, opening accounts, process work, etc.
- Embraces, executes, and provides coaching on retail initiatives promoted by Retail Banking Director.
- Completes documents for opening checking and savings accounts, certificates of deposit, Individual Retirement Accounts, safe deposit boxes, and debit and ATM cards.
- Processes overdraft and return items according to bank procedures.
- Orders credit reports, background checks, reference checks, and other information as needed.
- Protects the privacy and confidentiality of clients and team members.
- May open and close office by following established security procedures.
- Provides back up to teller line and new accounts as needed.
- Performs and/or supervises teller functions, balancing ATM, selling traveler’s checks and money orders, CDs, IRAs, new accounts, savings bonds, and credit card advances.
- May be required to be on call to answer ATM servicing calls or security alarms at night and on weekends.
- Provides personalized banking services to current and prospective clients, consistently seeking to expand client relationships and provide the highest-level client experience through business development and activities.
- Analyzes credit and financial information for processing of loans and other bank products for client to ensure applicable lending policies and procedures are followed.
- Assists in review of products and services to maintain competitive products.
- Represents the bank in community events to promote awareness of Bank Iowa.
- Prepares reports for management as required.
- Assumes overall responsibility for operational duties such as various reports, maintenance of records, supplies, management and oversight of security activities, training, and documentation, enforcement of bank policies as they relate to security, service, and operations, and projects or assignments.
- Follows up on referrals from other team members to generate new business.
- Provides superior client experience to all clients of the bank.
- Resolves client complaints and answers clients' questions regarding policies and procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages and assigns work to retail staff including Tellers, Customer Service Representatives, and Personal Bankers.
- Interviews and has input on hiring team members.
- Supports team members development by focusing on their innate talents and developing those into areas of strengths.
- Responsible for training, communication, and development of retail branch team members.
- Ensures the positive communication of all policies and procedures.
- Ensures team members are properly trained to perform their job responsibilities and expectations.
- Champions retail initiatives, operational changes, marketing campaigns and business development.
- Embraces and works to achieve the purpose and vision of the organization.
- Listens to and advocates for team members to ensure their engagement needs are met.
- Supports team member performance by establishing annual goals, setting clear expectations, and providing continual coaching.
- Creates a culture of accountability that celebrates progress as often as outcomes.
- Builds relationships that create trust and allow on-going dialogue.
- Conducts weekly sales and client experience performance meetings with team members.
General Responsibilities
- Provide and maintain a professional business-like atmosphere within the office.
- Understands and complies with banking regulations by following bank policies and procedures. Stays abreast of relevant regulations, current industry matters, and any changes implemented internally to ensure compliance.
- Performs other bank related duties as assigned by leader.
- Attends Committee Meetings as needed.
- Partners with all business lines to ensure full line of product and services are available to clients and that team members are educated on referring them.

Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
- High school diploma/G.E.D.
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
- 2 years’ experience in a sales, retail or banking environment
- Previous experience supervising staff preferred, including interviewing, hiring and training; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Ability to register and obtain a unique identifier number from the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System as a Mortgage Loan originator as well as keep the license in force by submitting updates when person information changes and to complete the annual renewal of the license.
