Job Purpose and Scope:

Responsible for supporting the lending efforts of the GGL Division, underwriting new loans and annual reviews. Works with loan types including corporate, commercial and industrial, and commercial real estate transactions. Serves as a trained banking professional and credit administration underwriter charged with analyzing and underwriting corporate and commercial loan requests containing a high degree of complexity. Serves as a mentor/coach to less experienced underwriters and staff.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Directly underwrites the more complex loan requests according to Bank’s policies, procedures and standards.
  • Maintains expertise in government guaranty loan programs, including changes to relevant SBA and other Agency Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Manages assigned credit transactions, ensuring the loan requests are being handled efficiently and processed in a timely manner, consistent with Bank’s standards and Service Level Agreements.
  • Serves as a coach/mentor to less experienced staff members.
  • Communicates with GGL Specialists and management about specifics concerning approved and declined loans, as necessary.
  • Analyzes debt service payments for proper calculation, billing and collection.
  • Assembles credit memorandum, financial spreads, and any additional supporting information into the loan approval system and submits for initial approval.
  • Analyzes all Affiliate entities of borrower or guarantors.
  • Analyzes lease agreements, sales contracts and other legal documents related to loan applications.
  • Assists in performing annual reviews on existing Government Guaranteed loan portfolio.
  • Assists in preparation for audits on the Government Guaranteed loan portfolio.
  • Conducts ad hoc financial analysis, as required.
  • Attends training as required by policy.
  • Regularly exercises discretion and judgment in the performance of the other essential job functions.
  • Maintains good punctuality and attendance to work.
  • Follows Bank policy, procedures and guidelines.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the standard operating procedures for SBA and USDA as they relate to eligibility, structuring, and originating GGL loans.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts to analyze complex industry, real estate, economic and financial data and interpret results and present findings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to articulate the strengths, weaknesses and issues related to a complex transaction, in both written and oral presentations.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively with exacting deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in work.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment when decision-making and problem solving.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Skill in using Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, E-Tran and SBA-One.

Position Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in business, finance or related field, or commensurate work experience, required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of banking credit underwriting and or lending experience in all types of GGL lending (i.e., C&I, Owner-Occupied Commercial Real Estate, Fixed Assets, Accounts Receivable/Inventory, Commercial 'For Sale' & 'Income' properties) required.
