Position Summary
The Trade Compliance Specialist facilitates Banner’s business by assisting with development, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls to ensure shipments are compliant with Title 10 CFR and other relevant laws and regulations related to Customs and partner government agencies.
This position reports to the Trade Compliance Manager.
According to the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), this position is classified as:
- Exempt, based on the Professional Exemption
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Customs and other governmental agency regulations
- Continuously works toward improving and refining the import and export processes as needed
- Works collaboratively with the Trade Compliance team to maintain accurate HTS/Schedule B classification, COO, and ECCN numbers; as well as ADD/CVD and applicable PGA
- Defines and communicates regarding proper CBP Valuation methodologies
- Accurate processing of Northbound transactions t
- Assists to maintain accurate and complete audit and compliance records in accordance with government regulations
- Contributes to free trade agreement program
- Supports collaboration with Customs brokers to resolve clearance issues at all points in transit and related KPIs
- Monitors ISF filings for ocean imports
- Identifies cost saving opportunities and coordinates change
- Participates in preparing and maintaining adequate technical and substantiation documentation
- Works cross functionally including with Warehouse Management & Staff as needed to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Supports processes to ensure export transaction screening, vendor screening, and risk mitigation
- Assists to maintain C-TPAT program
- Ensures Banner’s compliance with Custom and other governmental requirements, in collaboration with the Trade Compliance team

Required
- Bachelor’s degree, 5 or more years of previous Trade or Customs compliance, or similar experience
- Strong understanding of business, trade best practices, and applicable laws
- Technical expertise regarding Customs and other governmental agency laws, regulations, and related issues
- Extensive experience with Customs and importing
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills to manage relationships between people at all levels of the organization and externally
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business or related field; comparable years of experience in international trade compliance will be considered
- Customs Broker License an advantage; strong desire to attain will be considered
- Oracle EBS and Microsoft Office Suite experience
- HS classification and COO analysis experience
