Shelby Baptist Medical Center: Located in Alabaster, this facility is equipped with 252 beds and sees over 51,000 patients in the emergency department every year. Shelby offers advanced technology resources including a 3 Tesla MRI, a robotic surgery program, and a state-of-the-art cardiology suite. Shelby offers a full range of services to meet the diverse needs of patients including fast, life-saving response times for patients with chest pain or stroke symptoms; cardiology, including specialized surgical services; orthopedics, including rehabilitation; and psychiatric care.

POSITION SUMMARY
To provide safe basic patient care, utilizing technical skills, under the direct supervision of a registered professional (RN/LVN). Basic patient care includes, but is not limited to, assistance with activities of daily living, vital signs, and obtaining intake and output.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS
Answers call lights and attends to patients as needed.
Assists with filing, order entry, transcription and copying as assigned.
Assists with transferring, moving and repositioning patients. Helps patients with feeding during meals as requested.
Cleans, sterilizes and stocks equipment and supplies as necessary.
Observes patient status and reports to RN on findings.
Responsible for setting up patient rooms appropriately.
Maintains the unit as a clean, safe and comfortable environment to include patient room, lounge, and all other work areas.
Interacts in a professional manner with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers according to Performance Standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Required: Currently enrolled an accredited professional (RN) school of nursing
Preferred: unit secretary experience
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS
Required: CPR
Please note: New hires with expired ACLS cards must complete the ACLS course or present a current ACLS card issued by the American Heart Association within 60 days from hire date.
ORGANIZATIONAL COMPETENCIES
Attends all mandatory education and training programs (including department specific) and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance as well as department safety and specific job-related hazards.
Maintains all required CEUs for certifications and licensure.
Follows the hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
Attire is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment, according to the BHS and/or Department Appearance Policy and a high standard of personal cleanliness is maintained.
Reports to work on time and meets acceptable standard for attendance, based upon the department attendance policy.
