Director of Transportation Planning

What We're Looking For:
The Director of Transportation Planning will oversee, develop and coordinate Barge's transportation planning staff and projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for transportation planning, including statewide, metropolitan, and/or corridor planning
  • Lead teams in projects related to transportation planning and policy issues
  • Lead statewide, regional, and local transportation planning projects with a focus on the Southeastern United States, as well as national-level research projects and selected planning studies in other regions of the U.S.
  • Lead the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff
  • Identify industry trends and work closely with senior leadership to position Barge for long-term growth
  • Present visionary and influential views on transportation planning within our practices both internally and to our clients
  • Focus on innovation in corridor planning; statewide and regional transportation planning; multimodal and freight planning; NEPA planning; resiliency and sustainability planning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; travel demand modeling; and environmental planning related to transportation
  • Advance the practice through technical ingenuity, innovation
  • Collaborate with Client Service Leaders, pre-positioning Barge for major pursuits by identifying and showcasing our technical differentiators
  • Partner with sales and technical leadership to build relationships with federal, state, regional, and local planning clients, with an ability to work successfully across markets
  • Manage the technical delivery of transportation planning projects for state departments of transportation, MPO/regional agencies, local governments and transit and transportation authorities in the southeastern United States
  • Manage the preparation of planning reports, presentations and studies for major and minor projects
  • Manage the preparation and review preliminary and final studies and reports, and make recommendations for additions, deletions and substitutions when modifications are necessary
  • Participate in public presentations
  • Supervise and observe the work and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State and County officials and other outside agencies
  • Supervise the work of less experienced technical staff assigned to the project
  • Develop, mentor, and guide technical specialists and discipline leaders within the practice and drive innovative ideas for research and development
  • Lead the identification and recruitment of new hire candidates, as appropriate


Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or preferably Master's degree in Planning related field
  • AICP or Professional Engineer, P.E. certification is required
  • Minimum 6 years of multi modal transportation planning with MPO's, DOT's and municipalities for Corridor studies, systems plans, transit projects, and other related various regional/municipal/land use planning projects
  • Thorough understanding of the federal transportation planning and project development process and related funding programs
  • Is an exemplary service provider to both our external and internal clients
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both written and oral
