What are the responsibilities and job description for the CSP Tech, Central Sterile Supply position at Barnabas Health?
Job Overview:
The Certified Sterile Processing Technician has working knowledge of the following: decontamination, sterilization, instrument assembly, packaging and biologic monitoring of instrumentation, linen, case cart assembly and specialty cart assembly and the ability to read and document biological tests to ensure the functionality of sterilization equipment.
Types of instruments and trays routinely seen in the department include orthopedic loaner total joint trays, power equipment, a variety of scopes, robotic equipment and ophthalmology instruments.
The Certified Sterile Processing Technician identifies and assembles surgical instrumentation trays and ensures functionality, cleanliness and completeness of trays. They prioritize work according to surgical schedules and case cart pick lists and have some knowledge of storeroom supplies and distribution services.
Qualifications:
Required:
- HS school graduate or GED equivalent
- At least 2 years related experience
- Ability to work with a variety of computer systems for tracking trays and inventory
- Excellent customer service skills and works well in a team environment
- Maintain knowledge of the AAMI, NJDOH and Central Sterile Processing regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the Sterile Processing area
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Must be certified by a nationally recognized organization (CBSPD or IAHCSMM)
Scheduling Requirements:
- Shift working, day shift
- PT
Essential Functions:
- Decontamination, prep and pack, picking cases, and operation of sterilizers
- Receive, unbox, and put away SPD supplies in different locations
Rounding in the OR to ensure staff have what they need
- Record keeping manually and by computer and general department duties
- Multi-task and work during stressful situations
