Overview
Our long-term client relationship with Boeing Corporation has led to a need for a LHE (Lab Hardware Engineering) Engineer on the Boeing Engineering and Technical Services (BETS) contract located in Houston, Texas.
BETS-SWS provides support to Boeing’s Houston-based International Space Station (ISS), CST-100, and other site programs under the suite of Boeing Engineering & Technical Services Support (BETS) contracts. The BETS-SWS team designs, develops, tests and certifies avionic and simulation software and hardware; and maintains flight-equivalent labs for development, simulation and test of flight and ground software.

Responsibilities
The LHE (Lab Hardware Engineering) Engineer will:
- Support and lead development and sustain engineering projects for test support equipment and system level lab development, (includes large test rigs for the International Space Station (ISS) spacecraft command and control systems and dedicated equipment for ISS flight software and subsystem integration and test, including ISS power systems).
Perform design trade studies.
- Develop hardware design solutions for customized and automated test systems including computer-based solutions, various backplane architectures and cable harness design for turn-key, rack-based test solutions.
- Recommend make-buy decisions, while working closely with software development teams.
- Complete mechanical drawings for new hardware and update existing mechanical drawings.
- Support technical management of supplier interfaces.
- Act as the manufacturing liaison for hardware (HW) fabrication.
- Support qualification testing efforts.
- Provide technical assistance for hardware/software integration.
- Evaluate field failure data and capture opportunities to implement product improvement changes.
- Support root cause and corrective action activities with component suppliers.
- Lead change implementation of reliability improvements.
- Perform all other assigned duties.
Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school.
- OR -
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years engineering experience.
- OR -
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years engineering experience.
- Avionic Hardware Design knowledge/coursework/experience.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits.
Preferences:
- Ability to troubleshoot lab component failures in the field.
- Solid CAD tool and MS Office experience.
- Broad technical skills with electrical components like microprocessor based embedded systems, A/D and D/A conversion technology.
- Hardware design and protocols of interfaces such as MIL-STD-1553, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485.
- Familiarity with Ethernet networks (TCP/IP, UDP) as well as familiarity with both wired and wireless standards and protocols.
- Familiar with system design, development, integration, and verification live cycle processes.
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to learn continuously and ability to identify multiple avenues to successfully reach team goals.
