Bartell Drugs, your neighborhood drug store since 1890, is looking for a high energy, dependable, hardworking Reach Truck/Cherry Pick operator (Material Equipment Handler) for our Outbound Shipping, Receiving or Replenishment departments. Our Distribution Center is in Des Moines. Regular attendance and punctuality are expected.
- The Outbound Shipping schedule is Monday - Friday, 5:00 AM - completed (1:30 PM)
- The Receiving schedule is Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - completed (2:30 PM)
- The Replenishment schedule is Sunday - Thursday, 3:00 PM - completed (11:30 PM)
There is room for advancement at our Distribution Center as well as the Company at large!
Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to operate the electrically powered industrial truck to move pallets and material in the distribution center. The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.
In This Role You Will
Be a change agent in bringing our values and strategy to life as a Material Handler in our regional Distribution Center!
- Perform pre-trip inspection on Stand Up Forklift/Cherry Picker
- Operate Stand Up Forklift/Cherry Picker within Compliance and Safety Guidelines.
- Pick from racks while being lifted to approximate height of 29 feet.
- Prepare boxes and merge from rack onto pallet while using appropriate equipment
- Scan label on boxes
- Enter data into onboard computer

Requirements:
- Perform these operations using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
- Utilize reasoning skills.
- Apply common-sense understanding to carry out simple one-and-two step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Previous supply chain, warehouse, and/or distribution center experience is preferred.
Other Skills, Abilities, and/or Training:
- Minimum age of 18 years old due to the work environment.
- Pass drug test and background check.
- Committment to providing customer service that makes both internal and external customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated.
- Preserve confidentiality of information.
- Move with purpose and a strong sense of urgency.
- Work Saturday if needed (rare).
- Work extended days on a periodic/seasonal basis.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
- Work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines.
- Familiarity with industry/technical terms and processes is helpful.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), plus minimal warehouse experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations
This position requires a valid license to operate powered material handling equipment (MHE).
