POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Plant Manager, this position supports the Block and Dry Mix departments in all areas of production and production scheduling, equipment trouble shooting, maintenance programs, inventory control, personnel management, production analysis, raw material purchasing and enforcing the plant safety program; and is responsible for supporting and demonstrating the Core Values of Integrity, Safety, Respect, Customer Focus, Quality, Innovation and Financial Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Assistant Plant Super Intendent will receive direction and leadership from the Plant Manager and subsidiary support teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Assists in maintaining a high standard of quality in all areas of production from origin to shipment of product.
- Learn, understand and be able to instruct on the process of running all equipment used in the manufacture and secondary processing of block and dry mix products.
- Able to assist in troubleshooting equipment problems as well as assisting in production maintenance scheduling (PM’s, breakdowns, safety issues etc.).
- Oversee the request, purchase, storage, organization and status of spare parts used in all areas of the facility, including Block, Sack, secondary and mobile equipment in the yard.
- Monitor, record and assess production KPI’s to optimize production performance to meet established output metrics.
- Understands all production reporting and types of products produced.
- Hold team accountable to meeting production schedule and objectives.
- Orders raw material for both Block and Dry Mix Plants (cement, aggregates, additives, colors, bags etc.).
- Maintains proper stock inventories (raw material, finished goods, equipment, parts, etc.).
- Manage employees within state guidelines for breaks, lunches, etc. and apply best practice as it relates to labor, parts and maintenance spending.
- Work with HR for recruiting and hiring assistance
- Responsible for monitoring and approving employee actions in EC (HRIS) in a timely manner.
- Responsible for running time data audit report of recorded time and errors and track attendance via payroll system (NOVAtime).
- Provides guidance and direction for plant supervisors on employee and production issues.
- Assess staff skillset and address essential training needs to promote retention
- Provide input and follow company procedure on relative cost center expenses.
- Follow company policy process for plant / capital expenditures.
- Assist in managing annual / monthly plant expenses according to approved budget.
- Contribute to annual budgeting / planning process.
- Provide assistance in month-end close processes for location of responsibility.
- Assists in the month-end and semi-annual inventories.
- Abides by all safety rules set forth by company and governmental regulatory agencies and ensures that hazardous conditions are reported and corrected.
- Supervises groups of employees as required.
- Monitor and approve employee schedule and daily time.
- Work well with all production, yard, and maintenance personnel and promotes teamwork.
- Abide by all company Safety rules, including working with the local EHS coordinator to ensure:
- New hire safety is complete.
- Job Hazard Analysis is reviewed and signed off.
- Machine Specific Training is complete.
- Attend and participate in weekly safety huddles.
- Conducts training sessions to develop the skills of the employees and communicates company standards and goals.
- Ensure that new employees including temporary employees receive general orientation and location specific task training.
- Assists with conducting performance reviews for any direct reports.
- Must be flexible to work various shifts and weekends, as needed.
- Operating and filling in on equipment when needed.
- Regular attendance is required.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Requires a high school education or the equivalent. BS/BA in Business or Manufacturing is preferred.
- Five years in a Supervisory role. Production Management, Logistics Management, direct experience in the concrete block and/or sack industry a plus.
- On-the-job training experience is required to be able to perform duties.
- Occupational hazards and related safety precautions experience a plus.
- Proven ability to coach, guide and lead subordinates.
- Requires effective application of professional interpersonal skills.
- Requires excellent understanding and knowledge of computer applications.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication, mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Basic understanding of safety knowledge and Safe work practices.
- Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Valid Driver’s License.
