POSITION SUMMARY: This role is optional to be fully remote or onsite at Bass Pro Shops Base Camp offices in Springfield, Missouri
The UX Design Manager at Bass Pro Shops leads a dynamic team focused on enhancing the user experience across digital platforms. Tasked with developing the team's design capabilities, this key role ensures the delivery of quality designs and operationalizes UX strategies to meet project milestones. Through management, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration, the UX Design Manager's expertise will significantly shape the future of the company's digital experience with user-centered solutions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage and develop a high-performing team of UX designers (30%)
Build and lead UX design competency by staffing, coaching, mentoring and providing developmental feedback, driving improvement through regular performance conversations
Develop training and onboarding programs to streamline learning
Analyze team capabilities and gaps to improves competencies, tracking talent pipelines and defining hiring profiles
Manage annual budgets, staffing headcounts, resources
Maintain and ensure team members’ access to required systems and data sources
Guide career progression through mentorship, training, and assignment allocation, measuring progress on skill-development
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to help guide the research, design, and implementation of enhanced user experiences (30%)Maintain a strong understanding of company's products and strategy, helping designers apply insights to work
Promote consistency, quality and best practice adoption among designers and broader product teams
Maintain transparent communication on priorities, standards, focus areas, enabling the smooth delivery of multiple initiatives
Ensure effective cross-functional collaboration on UX-driven initiatives, facilitating communication, procedures, and resolving conflicts or misalignments
Maintain strong working relationships with other leaders and teams, enabling crossover projects and teamwork
Guide the continuous improvement of UX processes, design system, and tools (30%)Lead yearly and quarterly initiative planning, including goal setting, success metrics, scoping, staffing, project management and team alignment
Maintain and ensure governance of the centralized knowledge base of UX design processes, procedures, and Tacklebox Design System
Promote the consistent usage of organizational frameworks, processes, and systems across teams
Continually assess and analyze process and system effectiveness and recommend areas of organizational improvement
Lead initiatives on further defining and developing new design processes, systems, and methodologies
Advance personal and professional expertise through individual development (10%)Proactively maintain a personal growth plan by learning new skills, staying abreast of industry innovations, and exploring opportunities for professional development
ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred Degree: Bachelor's Degree or graduate degree in relevant field such as User Experience Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Information Sciences, Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, or a related discipline
Certificate(s) or License(s): Professional certifications such as Neilsen Norman Group (NN/g) UX Certification, Interaction Design Foundation (IDF) UX Design Certification, Certified Usability Analyst (CUA) by Human Factors international (HFI), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM). Other UX design trainings or bootcamp programs such as Google UX Design Professional Certificate, General Assembly UX Design Immersive Certificate
Years of experience: Seven or more years of experience. Three years of people management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
Passion for enabling teams and individual growth through onboarding, training, and professional development programs
Excellent team and individual communication skills; both written and verbal
Firm project management skills, able to keep work on track across teams and individuals
Understanding of Agile and Lean methodologies, and strong operational knowledge of team and project management tools
Practiced working knowledge of UX research and design methodologies and approaches
Deep understanding of user-centric design practices and modern UX/UI design patterns
Deep working design experience in UX design across devices, technologies and user contexts
Experience onboarding and managing individuals, growing capabilities and coaching to fill skill gaps
Experience managing projects and initiatives, maintaining rigorous process and project excellence from planning through execution
Experience collaborating with researchers, developers, and stakeholders cross-functionally and across workstreams and domains
A UX design portfolio reflecting complex end-to-end user experiences with demonstrated impact on business and team outcomes
Successful track record of leading effective teams executing impactful UX design
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
2-5% per year onsite travel to Bass Pro Shops Base Camp offices in Springfield, Missouri
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Regularly performs computer work and sits.
Occasionally walks and stands.
Seldom/never lifts up to 50lbs.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:
Develops objectives and general policies and procedures for a specific program or functional area of responsibility within general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work and decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor. End results are reviewed by supervisor.
