The Mohs Histology Technician will work Regular Part-Time, Days and performs activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by the Physician, according to policies and procedures.

• The Histotechnician works under direct supervision and follows standard procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks.
• The Histotechnician prepares sections of human tissue for microscopic examination, using principles and knowledge of  histology technique, under the supervision of the surgeon.
• As a Histotechnician, you will perform required quality control procedures for compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
• The Histotechnician sterilizes instruments using autoclave and proper aseptic technique.
• Cares for, maintains and documents required maintenance on laboratory equipment, instruments, and accessories in accordance with CLIA regulations.
• Responsible for preparing the reagents for the automatic stainer and following all safety precautions when using chemicals and reagents demonstrating knowledge of CLIA and OSHA standards.
• Properly disposes of contaminated waste using Universal Precautions, CLIA, and OSHA regulations.
• Cleans, stocks and inventories the laboratory area, ordering supplies and equipment as necessary through Procure.
• Ensures that all equipment, instruments, and accessories are available daily for scheduled procedures. Reports any irregularities to Office Manager.
• Responsible for maintaining the tumor log, and tracking biopsy results for outside laboratories.
• Daily laboratory setup and close down procedures including cleaning the cryostat.
• Updates laboratory protocols and manuals yearly or as policies change.
• This position requires the ability to fully understand all equipment, its maintenance, and their processes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Must be qualified as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histotechnician in accordance with New York State Department of Health regulations.
• Must meet minimum education & experience requirements to perform high complexity testing as defined by CLIA.

Experience:

• Mohs experience in tissue grossing and preparing frozen tissue sections required.

Licensure/Certificates:

• Licensure by NYS SED or licensure eligible with a limited permit or limited license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histotechnician.
• Limited Permit is granted to individuals that meet the educational requirements for licensure except for the licensing examination which must be taken within one year from the issuance of a limited permit.
