What you'll do

The Perinatal Technician will work Per Diem, Various Shifts and Weekends and surveys the environment of care and maintains the environment in a state of safety and readiness.

  • Stocks all areas with appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • The Perinatal Technician monitors supply levels and requests restocking/reordering as indicated.
  • Ensures that supplies and equipment are kept in proper location.
  • Communicates effectively with nursing, professional, allied health and support staff.
  • The Perinatal Technician reports patient needs and relevant care data to appropriate RN accurately and promptly.
  • Uses Vocera consistently according to policy.
  • Participates in face to face change of shift handoff with oncoming Perinatal Tech using SBAR format.
  • Demonstrates respectful assertiveness in team communication.
  • The Perinatal Technicianperforms testing and screening on adult and neonatal patients as ordered.
  • Conducts and records hourly rounds on assigned schedule.
  • The Perinatal Technician answers call lights promptly. Fulfills patient requests promptly or relay to appropriate RN.
  • The Perinatal Technician obtains vital signs, weights, I&O and other clinical measurements on adults and newborns. Adheres to Bassett's confidentiality policy.
  • Reviews e-mail weekly.
  • Adheres to isolation procedures.
  • Checks HealthStream monthly for assigned learning and completes assigned learning on schedule.
  • Completes Annually competencies.
  • Attends education sessions as requested by supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the assimilation of the principles of asepsis, patients, and staff safety in performance of duties.
  • Behavior exhibits knowledge of skills, importance of teamwork and consideration of others.
  • Provides additional administrative and service support to providers/health care team members congruent with PSA role.

What we need from you

Must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of a nationally accredited education program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential (see licensure requirement below) administered by a nationally-accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization.
  • Completed a military surgical technology program.
  • Previously employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015 (must provide proof of employment).
  • Is in the service of the federal government, to the extent the person is performing duties related to that service.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-year experience in a health-related position or as a Nursing Assistant preferred (at least 6 months in the hospital setting).

Licensure/Certificates:

  • Must obtain Surgical Technologist certification within 1 year from date of graduation and date of hire.
  • Previously employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015 will waive this requirement.

Skills:

  • Ability to function as an active team member.
  • Demonstrates competency in required skills relevant to area of practice.
  • Effective Time Management.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good manual dexterity, excellent motor, hand eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Strong reading, writing and basic math skills required.
  • Ability to handle and operate equipment, read retain and comprehend written and oral medical and technical information.
  • Effective communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires considerable walking, standing, sitting, bending and lifting when working with patients or at a nursing station.
  • Frequent walk in and telephone interruptions.
  • Ability to focus for extended periods of time.
  • Extended periods of standing in one position required.
  • Must be able to lift and position patients.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs in support of patient positioning, instrument and equipment handling.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Visual acuity correctable to 20/25 and hearing correctable to normal voice tones through surgical masks.
  • Exposure to sharp instruments and needles.

Pay Range Minimum

USD $21.53/Hr.
Pay Range Maximum

USD $32.30/Hr.


Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
