ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse (RN), Acute Care will work Full Time, Nights and is accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process.
- The Registered Nurse, Acute Care assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient needs.
- As a Registered Nurse, Acute Care, you will contribute to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork.
- The Registered Nurse I status and job description is only appropriate for a new nurse in the first year of practice, as support from others in incorporated into this role as an expectation.
- Therefore, all Registered Nurse Is are expected to complete the requirements of the Nurse Residency program and complete the application and credentialing process for successful advancement to Registered Nurse II by 12-15 months after hire.
- The Registered Nurses II through IV are accountable to assure that the care provided is consistent with applicable standards, regulations, statutes and state, federal law. Registered Nurses II through IV serve as a resource for other staff and clinicians as required
- The Registered Nurse IV provides leadership to department staff, serving as a resource and mentor.
- The Registered Nurse IV contributes to the body of professional nursing practice through participation in research, committee work, and professional organizations, internal and external.
Qualifications Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required (experience may be substituted for degree as stated below).
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
- Master’s degree in Nursing preferred.
Experience:
With no degree:
- 5 years of RN experience required.
- 3 years of above RN experience must be within relevant practice field.
With Bachelor’s degree (Non-nursing):
- 5 years of RN experience required.
- 3 years of above RN experience must be within relevant practice field.
With BSN or MSN:
- 5 years of RN experience required.
- 2 years of above RN experience must be within relevant practice field.
- Previous experience as a charge nurse/leadership role preferred.
Licensure/Certificates:
- Current NYS RN licensure.
- BLS certification preferred.
- Certification in area of practice required (this requirement is waived for candidates with BSN or MSN).
Skills:
- Ability to assess patient status and take appropriate action is required.
- Demonstrates competency in required nursing skills relevant to area of practice.
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to function in charge nurse or leadership capacity as determined by practice arena.
- Ability to precept and mentor other staff members.
Physical Requirements:
- Walking, standing, squatting and kneeling required throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and position patients required.
- Category I risk exposure as defined by OSHA.
- Must be able to identify and differentiate colors.
