BASIC

FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY : Assess students to determine eligibility for Related Service Counseling. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs and services, including counseling and behavior management to students with emotional disabilities.

Provide Related Service Counseling to eligible students in accordance with their Individualized Education Plans.

Support and participate in meeting the objectives of the campus / department improvement.

Student Management :

  • Plan and manage a program of related service counseling and social skills for students.
  • Conduct, score, and interpret comprehensive individual assessments of students referred for counseling or behavioral evaluations.
  • Participate in the development of individual educational plans and / or behavior management plan including follow- up and Consult with teachers, support professional personnel, parents, and community agencies concerning prevention and / or intervention strategies relating to learning and behavioral problems of.
  • Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
  • Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students.
  • Assist campuses in resolving parent / student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assist in managing student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Conduct group, individual, and family counseling sessions for students with diagnosed needs.
  • Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.

Management of Administrative, Fiscal and / or Facilities Functions :

  • Coordinate or participate the Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meetings, including document preparation / review and implement agreed upon changes.
  • Serve as a liaison for special education services between administrators, parents, and Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required for all areas of.
  • Attend meetings as requested by supervisor.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and present as a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the district and campus.
  • Coordinate departmental activities with other District offices and administrators and provide assistance to requesting departments.
  • Follow District and department policies and procedures.
  • Serve as consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program.
  • Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.

Analyze critical needs in assigned areas and work collaboratively to implement and improve.

Professional Growth and Development :

Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District.

School / Community Relations :

Articulate the district / campus mission and goals to the community and solicit support in realizing the Interface with governmental agencies, business and civic organizations, and the community to provide needed information and to promote the District’s

Organization Morale :

  • Foster positive morale by participating in team building activities and the decision-making process.
  • Communicate and collaborate with campus / department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer.

Other Responsibilities :

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS : Master’s degree from an accredited college or university, licensure by the Department of Health and Human Services as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), and two year experience providing counseling services for children and adolescents.
