Title: Systems Analyst

Position Purpose:

The Systems Analyst is responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of systems and applications to support the business and management needs of the College. This position will focus on the College's web infrastructure and deployment of open-source, third-party, and in-house developed applications.


Job Duties:

Oversight and maintenance of IT infrastructure:

  • Administers application servers running on various platforms in coordination with Bates Network and Infrastructure team.
  • Works with Network and Infrastructure and Systems Development and Integration staff to implement policy and procedures regarding identity management and account management.
  • Creates user accounts, assigns permissions, terminates accounts and reconciles permissions.
  • Integrates account information into systems and subsystems.
  • Monitors security releases and applies upgrades and patches.
  • Configures and utilizes tools to monitor service availability.
  • Diagnoses and corrects application performance problems.
  • Required to be on-call 24 hours per day to provide emergency support on a 4 person
    rotation.

Installation and support of Bates developed, open source and third-party web applications and services:

  • Provides support for systems including, but not limited to Ellucian Banner, WordPress, Drupal, Moodle, FileMaker, Argos, and other services.
  • Evaluates solutions and plans installation and upgrade schedules collaboratively with College personnel.
  • Troubleshoots issues as they arise.
  • Develops customizations and enhancements.
  • Plans and executes data integration between systems.

Design, development and support of database, web applications and integrations:

  • Designs, develops, and modifies secure and accessible applications for College departments using third-party and customized solutions.
  • Performs peer review of developed solutions.
  • Works closely with departments to assure compliance to needs and to provide application support.
  • Trains College personnel to access information and assists them in developing and maintaining documentation for their applications.
  • Evaluates the impact on College computing resources of application changes and new features.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Consistently strives to increase level of expertise on application software, web technologies, security and hardware.
  • Participates in software evaluations and assessments of new technologies.
  • Works collaboratively with other Information Services staff.
  • Connects with industry peers to forge mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Serves as assigned on College Committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Experience maintaining and updating application servers.
  • Experience developing systems that integrate with, or store data in, relational database systems such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in Unix/Linux environments and deploying applications.
  • Experience working with Identity Management systems and SSO/SAML based authentication is desired.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
  • Proficient in one language used for web development such as PHP, Python, or Java and have experience in other languages.

  • Experience with configuration management software such as Ansible and/or experience with continuous integration/deployment is desired.
  • Experience with Docker containers or Kubernetes is desired.
  • Active listener, ability to collaborate and engage with co-workers on ideas.
