The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates for Nuclear Research Facility Operators to work in the Analytical Research Laboratory (ARL). Our team works onsite a 4x10 schedule located out of our Material Fuels Complex (MFC) facility with every Friday off.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development, and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Operate and perform some maintenance on facility equipment and systems. Facility equipment and systems may include overhead handling systems, facility utilities, operational support systems, gloveboxes, and testing equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records of facility operation, equipment performance, production, treatment and experimental data in logbooks, log-sheets, or other data packages as required by facility programs and administrative procedures.

  • As requested, review and provide operational input to proposed procedures, procedural revisions, and proposed modifications to facility equipment/systems.

  • Adapts and applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and known processes, such as experiments requiring minor modification and setting up and operating test equipment.

  • Clearly understand and recognize the use of Human Performance Improvement (HPI) tools in self and others with the knowledge of how and when to apply tools to a specific work area.

  • Work activities may include sample preparation of radiological material. Sample preparation includes, but not limited to, dissolution of samples, and separations. The work will be performed in hoods, gloveboxes, hot cells (using remote manipulators), and on the benchtop.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • High school (HS) diploma and two to four years of experience demonstrating a strong, mechanical aptitude, hand-eye coordination, electrical, or scientific application, or relevant associate degree, or ESTEC Graduate.

  • Experience gained in a variety of industrial, laboratory or commercial settings.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • Candidates selected for interview will be required to show successful completion of college level or high school advanced placement math and science courses with a min of a "C" grade as part of the interview process.

    Candidates selected for hire will be required to:

  • complete clearance paperwork, qualifications and/or certification in a timely manner.

  • complete on-going training and successfully passing numerous exams to demonstrate technical content knowledge.

  • meet the expectations of all employees at MFC; demonstrated strong work ethic, integrity, customer service mentality, and technical skills for the position.

  • be willing to learn and comply with DOE conduct of operations requirements and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) principles.

  • be willing and can complete Rad Worker II qualifications. Donning and doffing of anti-contamination clothing and wearing a full-face respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.

Job Information:

  • Salary Grade TS0100: 170 ($57,108 - $91,440) / Salary Grade TS0200:n180 ($64,272 - $102,840)

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
