We are currently seeking a Human Factors Researcher to support the Environment & Infrastructure, Critical Infrastructure-Transportation Operations group. This position is located in Crystal City, VA or Seattle, WA, but will consider remote locations.

 

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

Performs Human Factors and Industrial Engineering research and testing, designs and develops tools, experiments, systems and environments. Specific domain and industry areas include but are not limited to human factors, driver behavior and performance, transportation and highway safety, driver attention and safety, human machine interface (HMI), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), autonomous driving, connected vehicles, and emerging technologies in transportation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports complex assignments related to the design and development of tools, systems and environments for increased efficiency and operating performance. Conduct research and development activities for experiments and projects. 
  • Helps interpret complex data and results; assists in writing technical reports. Assists in the preparation of technical reports and presentations to clients, both formally and informally.
  • Assists with business development and proposal efforts. 
  • Contributes to Internal Research & Development studies.
  • Assists with the coordination of and participation in Battelle-sponsored conferences.  
  • Participate in scientific conferences, peer review panels, and works to increase company visibility through publications.
  • Collaborates with other research staff.
     

THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Psychology or other related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
  • Advanced statistical skills and use of R, Python, or similar statistical and scientific languages; Understanding of human-in-the-loop and model-in-the-loop simulation analysis; Data visualization; Behavioral research data collection techniques.
  • Strong understanding or research methodology and behavioral data collection techniques/processes.
  • Must be a self-starter, be able to take on multiple complex assignments, independently manage and prioritize work time to balance customer and business needs, and ability to work with both government and commercial clients. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
