Job Description
The Assembly Floor Technician, working under the guidance of the Assembly Team Lead and reporting to them, offers technical assistance for both internal and external projects, ensuring compliance with deadlines and quality standards.
Responsibilities encompass sub-assembling equipment and assembly of new pharmaceutical automation machines, assisting at the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at the Branford site as well as the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) at the customer's location in the US.
This role offers the opportunity to primarily work on-site in Branford while occasionally requiring travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assemble pharmaceutical packaging machinery within the assembly shop from blueprints, bill of materials, and/or verbal instructions.
- Review orders for completeness and accuracy, seeking clarification when needed.
- Perform necessary adjustments and comprehensive parameter configurations to ensure the machine operates at its best. If needed interfacing with engineering to determine needed changes.
- Conduct electrical and pneumatical installations for pharmaceutical packaging machinery and control cabinets.
- Execute and document hardware testing.
- Interface with PLC programmer for programming issues.
- Complete the electrical safety testing by UL regulations.
- Generate electrical documentation like Measurement of Electronic Safety (MES), and Electronic Operating Equipment.
- Analysis of malfunctions and troubleshooting during installation at the plant and at the customer's site, for complex issues.
- Affix and verify equipment labels.
- Assist shipping and receiving with any technical issues.
- Support during Factory Acceptance Tests FAT & SAT.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
TRAVEL:
This position requires up to 10% travel. Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight including periodic visits to our German headquarters for training.
Qualifications
- Advanced electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic skills, preferably in the packaging industry
- Prior experience with automation industrial machines and ability to understand PLC (programmable logic control) controls e.g. Allen Bradley, Beckhoff, and Siemens.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, schematics, and machine specifications
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical devices
- Ability to solve technical problems
- Good understanding of cGMP requirements, change control, gown qualification
- Knowledge of FDA-regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environments is a plus
- Experience with robotics is a plus
- Current and/or recent experience as a traveling field service engineer/service technician or assembly technician is a plus
- Availability for substantial travel within North America and Germany therefore a valid driver's license is a must

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Completed training or an apprenticeship as a mechatronics or electro / mechanical technician, mechanical technician, electrical technician, or comparable knowledge and skills; or an Associate’s degree in a technology field, e.g., mechatronics, electromechanical or related, etc.
- 3 years of relevant experience in automation machine assembly and plant installation is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, terms & conditions, and specifications.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time (non-exempt) position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Potential for some overtime.
