Your Role at Baxter Healthcare

As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer at Baxter, you will contribute directly to our mission to empower clinicians and health systems with digital solutions to make a difference in patients and clinicians' lives. It's ambitious work-and you're not on your own.

You will play key role in design, development and support of cloud based clinical data platform and data applications within the Enterprise Connectivity group of Healthcare Systems and Technologies business unit. The data platform will support data ingestion from various on-premise and cloud-based data sources and data processing by leveraging various big data tools. The data platform will also support various BI and ML applications to develop actionable insights that improve clinical outcomes, benefit customer experience.

You will understand and define customer needs; platform functionality, operational requirements; cybersecurity and privacy and other compliance requirements. We are looking for someone to lead data engineering team members on the overall design of the data platform and hold responsibility for all risk management activities to ensure a secure and compliant operation of the data platform.

Your team

You will be a part of the Enterprise Connectivity R&D team, which supports both new development and sustainment of existing connectivity and other digital solutions. You will also direclty work with teams from other business units to onboard and develop data applications to support their products on the data platform. You will work with a cross functional team that consists of other engineering disciplines, operations, and quality assurance. We encourage partnership, collaboration and prioritize building relationships with each other. What you will be doing

  • Interact with all business and customer partners to understand their problems and needs to define functional requirements
  • Interact with various Baxter IT and Cloud Operation teams to collect and define operational requirements such as performance, monitoring, billing, and other non-functional requirements
  • Translate customer needs, business constraints, cybersecurity, privacy, monitoring and regulatory requirements into functional and non-functional system requirements of the cloud data platform
  • Conduct risk management activities including planning, risk analysis, risk evaluation and control.
  • Responsible for setting up DHF and creating design artifacts based on planning, design input/output and design transfer needs per medical device and non-medical software guidelines of Baxter quality system.
  • Lead the technical team through technical risk identification and management as well as issue and test defect resolution
  • Enable technical design decision making (building for capacity and scale) based on available data and projected growth.
  • Influence the quality of the product by enforcing repeatable build, deploy, test and operating procedures.
  • Ensure changes are analyzed holistically and impacts are fully understood
  • Decompose and allocate system level requirements into module level requirements.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's Degree (Software/Electrical Engineering or comparable technical subject area)
  • 10 years of engineering experience including fundamental understanding of Software engineering in healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of medical device software development lifecycle is required including knowledge of standards such as IEC 62304, ISO 14971.
  • Hands on experience in building and/or sustaining mission critical cloud based medical device products with proven involvement in system engineering and operationalizing the product to operate at scale.
  • Deep operational understanding of the infrastructure and various services in Cloud environments
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work collaboratively with others multi-functionally
  • Exposure and working experience in extracting backend data from databases, application logs to generate reports that could provide insights to design and marketing teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Deep understating of infrastructure-as-code toolsets and usage in controlled environment
  • Experience in usage of a continuous integration (CI) or continuous development (CD) pipeline a is desired
  • Experience with test driven development and automated testing strategies is desired.
  • Ability to plan, estimate and accurately track deliverables
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and verifiable requirements
  • Adaptability, open to change and continuously looks for ways to improve and simplify sophisticated work.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a base salary range of $80,000 to $180,000 plus an annual incentive bonus. The above range represents the expected base salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
